WEAK WOMEN. Josh. T. James, Editor & Prop'r. Wilmington, N. C. Why are they Weak and Can they Be come at Healthy and Vigorous as Men? Valuable Suggestions on the Subject. At the Madison Square Garden, New York' recently, Ave women, for six days in succes sion, rode over 109 miles each day upon bicy cles, and at the end of that time were well and strong. This proves conclusively that women have strength and endurance often equal to men. Why, then, are they called a weak race? He is a young bachelor with all a young bachelor's love for ani popularity in society. The New Orleans Cotton Exchange has issued an address upon the bagging question, which has been sent to the cotton buyers of both continents. In that address it says: 'lA number of manufacturers in the cotton States are reported to be preparing to supply an important proportion of the covering required for baling the cotton crop of the current year. There is naturally a great and commendable desire to use the product of our own fields and of our own factories. This Ex change is in entire harmony with this progressive idea, and will now, as heretofore, encourage, promote and sustain any practical measure promising general benefit to the cotton interests of its great constit uency in the cotton States. The probable annual requirement of 125,000 bales of cotton for making bagging, the employment of thous ands of operatives at loom and spindle and the consequent reten tion at home and disbursement among our own people of $5,000,000 now annually sent out of the cotton States in payment for foreign jute, are 'partially developed facts that must command our serious notice The interests concerned are generaj in character. They are of great magnitude and are pertinent to our own especial friends and people. In the matter of fabrics suitable for bailing cotton there should be com petition at least, and that competi tion should be on terms of equality. This leads up to the point that the jute covering on a bale weighs eighfc pounds more than the cotton cover ing. To sell cotton covered and jute covered bales for the same price for the gross weight of bales, irre spective of bagging, would be to the prejudice of the lighter covering. It is apparent, then, that there cannot be any fair or equal competition without a distinct recognition of the important difference in the respec tive weights of the bagging used Is consumption Incurable ?
