He I is a frequent promenader on Penn isylvania avenue, attired in the j coolestof summer garments. A straw hat, flannel shirt, loose trousers, russet leather shors and an alpaca coat is his favorite costume. He is a great admirer of outdoor sports, especially base ball and horse racing. He is a close reader of everything that relates to foreign affairs, par ticular! v our relations with t ranee, j Germany and England. The Sena tor is alwavs an interesting talker ', "... Inn nntionnl nolitics. and is ever j ready to discuss the subject with his i nmiiprnns newsiiaper friends. He enjoys hearing of the disappoint ment of the office seeking statesmen, .far he knows how it is himself, tie was never regarded as an enthu siastic admirer of Mr. Cleveland and his civil service policy. In speaking of the far-off Presidential contest in 1892 the Senator says he expects to see the Southern delegations go to the nominating convention and cast their votes solidly for Cleveland. The Southern people have learned to regard him as their truest and best friend, and it will be a difficult matter to win them away from his camp. The latest trust, as already stated in the Review, is the castor oil trust. There are seven mills in this country engaged in making the oil, the value of their plants being about $75,000. The manufacturers are taking the final steps toward or ganizing a trust combination with a capital stock of from $250,000 to $500,000. The scheme is protected by a tariff tax on imported castor oil of 80 cents a gallon. As the average price of the imported oil in 1888 was 48 cents a gallon the trust has the benefit of a 166 per cent. duty. There has, however, been a combination of the manufacturers for years to keep the price up, so that the organization of a trust can not make much difference. Some years ago the combination pushed the price up to $1.34 a gallon, a lit tle higher than the tariff tax would warrant, so that in 1886 there was an importation ot 13,UUU gallons. Last year the price ranged from $1.12 to $1.24 a gallon. There is room now, therefore, for a further plucking of the consumer. The sick of this country ought not, of course, to be at the mercy of a set of iuen not content to sell for a dollar what the "paupers1' of other countries buy for 48 cents. now searching in Explorers are Africa for two mysterious lakes which have long figured on the maps, though they have never been seen by a white man. One of them is Lake Landji, from which the real Congo is supposed to issue after it receives the two big head streams of the Congo, the Lualaba and the Luapulu. As the LucugaRiver, also the only outlet of Lake Tanganyika, is supposed to empty into Lake Landji, it is easy to see why geogra phers are anxious to have the re gion of this supposed lake explored. Mr. Trivier has started up the Con go from Stanley Pool, and expects to follow the river to Lake Landji. The other mysterious body of water is Lake Liba, which for years has appeared on the maps far inland, east of the Gulf of Guinea Some cautious German publishers have recently erased the lake from their maps, as there is really no satisfac tory evidence of its existence. The well known explorer, Rogozinski, has now started inland to see if he can find this famous but mistv sheet of water. It will not be very sur prising if the explorers report that neither lake exists. Poison the fountain and the stream is impure; poison the blood and its taint is carried through the entire system those innumerable veins and arteries carry disease and death instead of life and vitality. As a result yu have Headache, Scrofula, Dyspepsia, K idney Disease, Liver Complaint and General Debil ity. While at business, I was suddenly attacked with excruciating pains in my feet, knees and hands. So severe the attack that I took my bed Immediately, and in two or three days my joints were swollen to almost double their natural size, and sleep was driven from me. After suffer ing the most excruciating pain for a week, using liniments and various other remedies a f rkbnd who sympathized with my helpless condition, said to me : " Why don't you get Swift's Specific and use it. I wiU guarantee a cure, and if it does not the medicine shall cost you nothing." I at once secured the S. S. 8., and after using ft the first day, had a quiet night and refreshing sleep. In a week I felt greatly benefitted. In three weeks I could sit up and walk about the room, and after using six bottles I was out and able to go to business. Since then I have been regularly at my post of duty, and stand on my feet from nine to ten hours a day, and am entirely free from pftln.
