' brilliantly illuminated for the occa sion. i There were about twenty couples on the floor and the music was very fine. It was a splendid night ifor dancing. The last train left the Hammocks about midnight. slight Change of Schedule. A slight change of schedule goes into effect on the Carolfna Central R. R., West of Charlotte, on Sunday next. The tran will leave Charlotte then at 5.55 p. m. instead of 415 p. m., as is the case now. By this change close connection will' be made with trains on the C. C. & A. R. R. from the South and the R. & D. R.. R. from the North, as also, at Llneolnton, with the Chester & Lenoir Narrow Gauge R. R. K. Ca. Medical Journal. I The regatta of the Carolina Yacht Club yesterday afternoon was large ly attended but the wind was very light and only four boats entered, two of eaeh class. These were the Vixen, owned by Col. E. S. Latiuier, the Pirate, Mr. Norwood Giles, the Lillian Florence, Mr. H. M. Bowden and the: Rosa, Mr. Win. L. Smith, The boats reported at 3 o'clock and the start was made at 3:50 in the following order: ; I Lillian Florence at 3:50; Rosa at 3:50:50; Tixen at 3:53:30; Pirate at 3: 533J. I ! The Pirate won in 1 hour 49 mm utes and 31 seconds, the boats hav ing come in in the following order: Pirate 5:43:06; Lillian Florence 6:14:15; Vixen 6:15. This race decided the contest be tween the Pirate and the Rosa for the Latimer cup and it was award" ed to the former. It was presented at the german last night, Mr. Geo- W. Iidder making a very approp riate speech and Mr. Giles respond ing in his usual pleasant manner.' Some Alligators. j v There are lots of alligators yet in the pond at Carolina Beach and some of them are thought to be more than a hundred years old. Some of the natives say, in fact, that there is a venerable saurian in the lot so old that he cannot sleep. They hear him bellowing sometimes in the dead of winter,! in the middle of the night. Parties who mav want perch to go fishing : there with line must first get permission from Capt John Harer. 5 Carolina Beach on Friday, It will be a big day at i Carolina .Beach on Friday next. In the fore noon of that day the" ladies of the Dorcas Society of St. Paul's" Luther an Church will give an excursion and in! the afternoon the Germania Band will give their usual weekly concert. Large numbers of excur sionists are expected at the Beach on thai day.
