Wf? houses... supplied These Be Strange Tilings Much interest is being felt here, as well as elsewhere, in the reported results of the application of the "elixir" discovered by Dr. Brown Sequard, the eminent and aged American phvsician! who has been so loner resident at Paris. A week or so ago it was reported that Dr. Hammond had tried it with gratify ing results and we find in Satur dav's New York Star reports of its successful application at Cincinnati and Cleveland. The "elixir" is pre pared from the glands or some young and healthy animal, reduced to a powder and then made up into a liquid and hypodermically injected into the forearm of the patient. The injection, it is said, must be made not more than two hours after the death of the animal Dr. Sequard is allecred to have iust applied it to himself and all the physicians who have used it at all have also subjected themselves to its applica tion. In the reports alluded to above, Dr. Robert Bighar, of the Cincinnati College, applied it to a number of persons, among others to a colored man. 70 vears of age. who was bent and crippled with rheuma tism. In his case the injection was made in arms and lesrs and a few hours after he could walk with ease At Cleveland Dr. Brainerd, one 6 the most eminent physicians in the city, applied it, without the patient's knowledge, to an old man 70 years of age, bedridden and sinking away and the next day the old fellow go out of bed and walked a mile, say ing that he felt twenty years young er. These things seem strange bu they come to us with the stamp o truth upon them.! We would like to report a trial of this "elixir" by some one or more of,our city physi cians. Dr. Hammond, by the way, tells a New York reporter that the "elixir" is not a remedy, but merely a tonic, and that it would take hundred years of experiment! rier to know anything about it. In order to do this successfully it is necessary to form a local society in j Wilmington that the work may be carried on systematically. It is proposed to form this local society to-night. It is also expected to form the New Hanover Co unty Society to prepare the county exhibit for the industrial display at Raleigh, October 14th to 19th. It is important j that a good exhibit of the mechanical, industrial and agricultural products of New Hanover county be sent to this dis play,, as it is expected that a greater number of home-seekers seeking horns and capitalists! seeking in vestments will be in Raleigh at that time than have ever been in North Carolina on any previoifs occasion.
