The annual meeting of stockhold ers of the Carolina Central Railroad Company will be held at the office of the Old Dominion Steamship Co., in New York city, on Thursday, the 10th of October next. I The - Wilmington Seacoast and Ocean View Railroadxhave issued 500 tickets for the old' and sick col ored people of the city. The day has not yet been appointed for them to go down but it will be made known in a few days. The cautionary Northwest signal fl ats to day. It was ordered up at 10:30 o'clock this ' morning, and it was also ordered up at Morehead. Violent Northeast gales are off the coast. (But why should the. North f a Northeast gale? Ed.) The Oiislovf llogd, The Newbern Journal learns that work on the Wilmington, Onslow and East Carolina Railroad is being pushed vigorously and that the track is laid about 10 miles from Wilmington. This is an error. No track has yet been laid on the road. The grading, we hear, is completed nearly to Scott's Hill, which is 12 miles from the city. We are afraid that we will not get many New River oysters over this road next Winter. A Sliarp Trick, Yesterday afternoon Mr. A. V, Horrell, who has a store on the corner of Fourth and Hanover streets, sent a little boy he has in his employ out to get a $30 bill changed and an unknown colored mau met him at the railroad bridge and taking tho money told him to come with him and he would change it. The little boy went as far as Seventh and Campbell streets, where the man told him to wait and he would. go in the house and get the change. The boV waited . a long time-but he has not yet seep the man or the money. The Grand Conclave. The Triennial Conclave of the Grand Encampment of Knights Tenfplar in Washington, D. C, next month, is attracting attention all over the United States, and North Carolina will probably send a big delegation. This Conclave will be the most important and at the same time most interesting ever held on this Continent. It is the highest legislative body of .the Order, The questions to be considered will bring out the ablest talent, as .the Order contains in its ranks some 1 of the most distinguished statesmen in the country. The attendance will be very large, and it is expected that there will be at least from 40,000 to 50,000. Knights formed in line on Pennsylvania avenue on that grand occasion. v The rate has been placed at one fare for the round trip; this to in clude the ladies who will accompany the members of the order as well as the Knights. i There are some nine or. ten com manderies in this State, located at Wilmington, Wilson, Raleigh, ur ham, Greensboro, Winston, Char lotte and Asheville, and, perhaps at one or two other points. The Char lotte Knights, as we learn from the Fjtr the next ten days theCarolina Beach and South port route will be rnn hv thf S?7vnn f7rCtVC. as the Passport will be laid off for a short News, are preparing to go in a body time'to fit her up for the winter. Our Wilmington Songstress Miss Annie DeRosset, of this city, sang htSt Sunday morning in Golds boro in the; Episcopal Church and in the; Baptist Church at night. This morning's Argus says: .The vocal solos rendered by. Miss Annie DeRosset of Wilmington, at the morning service in St. Stephen's Episcopal "Churfih, in f Ithis --cUyv Sunday, and at the evening service in the i Baptist '-"i Church "Rock of Ages" and 'Lead,1Kindiy Light" were really a revelation in musical art to the church-goers of our city whose good fortune it was to hear her. Organ music, with a thousand beautjul, thrilling suggestions and the pulse of religion beating through it, is at all times in church condu cive to that contriteness of heart and child-like dependence that lead Us to iut our clinging trust in -Him who is indeed the "Rock of Ages"; and so when the , beautiful words of this song, rendered by a voice! with power and magnetism enough to thrill a host aud sway a multitude as the wind sways the trees of a forest, filled the church the effect Was felt, but can no more be eiiibod led in words than we can give the melody of the skylark. In the last verse especially, Miss DeRosset,; by the power of her voice and a happy inspiration an inspiration of j reli gion as well as of genius brin gs the prayer and the answer both : to the heart of the regiously inclined he Rock is riven, and far in the recesses of God's love the soul of the-suppliant finds peace andjrest. Wilmington Light Infantry. The regular monthly meeting of the Wilmington Light Infantry was held at the Armory last night. There was a full attendance of members. After routine work, an election for Captaiu was ordered, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Cspt. Jno. H. Daniel. Sergt. Duval French nominated Capt. W. R. Kenan for the position, and there being no other- nomina tion, on motion, the secretary, Mr. Walker Taylor, wjis instructed to cast the vote of the company for W. R. Kenan. Capt. Kenan was present and being called upon, au- nounced his readines to accept the honor in a brief but fitting speech. Privates J. D. Nutt and H. Cron enberg were placed- on the reserve corps, each having served five year as an active member. A reserve corps badge was pre sented to Sergt. H. H. Mcllheny. Col John L. uantvvell, in "behalf of Capt. Edgar Williams, of the tug Marie, presented the company with a small cannon. It was accepted, arid the secretary was instructed to express in writing the thanks of the company for the gift. The following resolutions wero on motion adopted, vi?: fiesolvedi That we, the Wilming ton Light Infantry, in meeting as sembled, hereby desire to express our readiness to accept the State regulation uniform, whenever the State, authorities are ready to issue the same to us. .
