Mitchell, oa Second street, between L'hurch and Castle, was the cause of a fire last night. The alarm was gjven at about 8 o'clock, the fire department turned out promptly and the flames were soon extinguished. The damage was about $400, fully covered by insur ance in the agency of Messrs. Smith & Bo at w right. Attempted Borgia-. At about 3 o'clock last Sunday morning, Mr. P. M. Hewlett, who lives at what is-known as the O. G, Parsley place, near " Hilton, was aroused by his wife who told him that some one was trying to break into the house. He jumped up just as a burly colored man had forced open one of the blinds, and when the latter was asked what he Want ed, he replied that he wanted to find Mr. Chadbourqjs. Mr. Hewlett told him to wait' a minute and he would show.him the way and ran for his pistol.
