TYIE MiITAL CLEAN BHa good condition., w-illrio Bold cheap , Appry;at - Republican members of(the Legis lation of Montana, says the New York ASYar, fiave made proposals to the Democrats of that Stat that there should be a compromise of the deadlock there. A meetiner of the Democratic members ot the Legista ture was held.and they very prompt ly and wisely voted to pay no at tention to such a proposition. A gentleman occasionally compromis es with a thief who steals his silver, but a party cannot afford to enter into negotiations with the men who have tried to steal a State. It is tao serious a crime to be forgotten or condoned. : The Democrats of Mantana are fighting for a principle that involves the good name and 'future welfare of the State. No sort df compromise ought to be thought of for a mo ment, whatever inconveniences may result from the stoppage of public business. If two Republican Sena tors from Montana are seated by fraud, it will be an ineradicable botl upon her good fame that,at her first State election, a political crime was carried through successtully which was more flagrant and un justified than any ever attempted under the Returning Boards in the South. Moreover, it will place a premium upon dishonesty in the future and establish precedents that will breed similar troubles for years to come. The worst result from a political crime like this is not its immediate effect, but the encourage ment it gives to dishonest and scheming politicians to attempt it again. The more light thers is shed upon this Montana crime tho worse it ap Xears. Not only did the law furnish no precedent for throwing out the Democratic ballots in Silver Bow County, but a Republican Judge had given a decision to directly op posite effect only a few months be fore. But this fact did not check the members of the conspiracy, which extended from the county canvassers to the President of the United States. It is the duty of the Democrats in Montana not only to defeat these conspirators; they must be punished as well. "It is all over town," said the Arab. "What?" asked the old man, his eyebrows bristlinsr with curios ity. Mud" said the youngster, while' his mouth went clear around his ears in a grin. "Right you are," said the old man. "With the mud come colds and soughs, and you know the remedy." "Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup," rejoined the boy. VRight you are again!"
