This waru weather, now so near
its close, has been especially hard
on the butchers. A dealer in Front
Street Market told us this morning
that he threw away last week
enough meat to feed 500 people. .

One of the most noted musical
events in the history of Wilmington
will be the appearance here to mor
row night, at the Opera House, of
the famous violinist, Ovide Musin.
He will be handsomely and ably
assisted in the grand concert. Music
lovers should not miss this rare
artistic treat.

The New Year's Eve Ball, Jo be
given by Germanta Lodge No. 4, K.
of P., at Germania Hall, to-morrow
evening, promises to be one of the
most delightful events of the season.
The mornings are now at their

it will rise at 7.10 and thenceafter
both mornings and afternoons will

Mr. George Hewlett, of this city,
is a first-class sleight of hand per
former. He is equal to Ellis in
many things. He is the most skill
full prestigiator we ever seen off the

New Year's Day being a holiday,
the Postofficft will be closed, as on
Sundays, except that the carriers
will make one delivery early in the
morning. The Carriers' and Gen
eral Delivery Windows will be open
from, 9 a. m. to 10 a. in.
The annual report of the mete
orological division of - the North
Carolina Agricultural Experiment
Station, for 18S8, has been received.
It is a neatly printed pamphlet of
twenty seven pages, showing the
work of the State Weather Service,
and giving reports, from stations,
etc., und much other information of
interest and value.
