His Honor the Mayor and gentle men of" the Board of Aldermen: Please make some arrangements for roadways in the heavily sanded streets up town and oblige several thousand tax payers and constitu ents. A party paid ten dollars for a horse at an auction sale. The horse I was lame, bruised all over, had the scratches, and was-terribly "galled." A bottle of Salvation Oil, costing 25 cents, was used, and in two weeks you would not have known the ani mal. No Truth in It. The Charlotte New. which pub lished the rumor that Mr. Sol, Haas would be appointed General Man ager of the Richmond and Danville system, has received a telegram from Capt. W. H. Green, the Gen eral Superintendent, stating that there is no truth whatever in the rumor nl that no change is con templated. TlieTflre 'Una fliorning. . The alarm of fire this morning at r, o'clock, sent in from box 25, was caused by the burning of aone story frame dwelling on Seventh, between Bladen and Swann streets, owned and occupied by M. Watters,colored. The building was insured for $125, in the Georgia Home Insurance Co., of Columbus, represented here by Messrp. Northrop, Hodges & Taylor. City Court. The following cases were disposed of by the Mayor to-day: John Roderick, cows running at large, fined $10. Bessie Standback, disorderly con duct, $20 or 30 days. Rilla Giles, disorderly conduct, $20 or 30 days. Alex. Mclntire, disorderly con duct, $10 or 20 days. Bel ford's jjlagazi ne. The February number of Belford'd Magazine, now at hand, is full of in teresting matter. The leading ar ticle is the second part and conclu sion of the late Ex-President Davis remarkable papers on "Anderson ville and other War. Prisons. Mr. Davis' proofs; and conclusions are both indisputable and they show, most conclusively, just where lies the blame for the fearful mortality at Andersonville, resting it upon the shoulders of the Federal authori ties at Washington City. "Out of the Night and the Other World" is a very pleasing story; "The New English Invasion;" "ChimerasDire,' "Little Buttons," "A Tardy Recog nition," "The Auditorium at Chica go," and "The University of Michi gan" are all good papers and read able. H. K. Thurber tells "Why I am a Protectionist" . and the com plete novel for the month, "By Might of Right," by Irene Farrar, is very good. There are several fine poems in the number and the. edi torial department, as is always the case in this excellent "monthly, will attract universal attention.
