It is prob able that the invention will be taken up by some prominent rail road men and that a strong com pany will be formed for its intro duction and use. The Fire This Morning:. The alarm of fire this morning at 1:15 o clock, sent in from box 41, was caused by the burning of a one story frame building on the corner of Seve'nth and Ann streets, owned and occupied by H. B. Walker. There was insurance on the house for $100 and $50 on the furniture, in the Northern Insurance Co., of Lon don, represented here by Mr. M. S. Willard.' The house is a total loss but the furniture was saved. Look Ont for Snow! The cautionary Northwest storm signal was raised here this morning at 11:15 o'clock, in accordance with instructions from Washington City. It was also ordered for Morehead. The prediction is for snow and much colder Northwest winds. It is hard to take stock in this, yet we don't like to venture a prediction to the contrary. If snow comes now it will be like a rain of ice water in August and not half so welcome. How are the Folks ? . "Oh, they're all well except Moth er, she's about the same. Poor Mother, worn out by household cares, exposure and overwork. No wonde she gives up at last and takes to her bed. But oh! how much brighter the family fireside would be if mother's chair was not vacant. The doctors don't seem to be doing her any good. She says their medi cines don't seem to go to the spot. She feels so weak and longs for strength. "Oh! give me strength," she murmurs. Why not give her the remedy her system craves? Her impoverished blood and shattered nerves are starving for just such in gredients as are coutained in B. B. B. (Botanic Blood Balm). Then tiy a bottle of this excellent remedy. It is truly woman's best friend. It quickly relieves pain and restores health, strength and functional reg ularity. James W. Lancaster, Hawkins ille, Ga., writes: "My wife was in bad health for eight years. Five doctors and as many mora different patent medicines had done her no good. Six bottles of B. 15. B. has cured-her.7 . r j 'Forecasts. For North Carolina, light rain or snow, much, colder weather and a cold wave. For Wilmington and vicinity, rains to day followed by fair weather to morrow. . Also a full line of children's Kilt Suits at the lowest price for cash only. I. Shrier, corner Front and Princess streets. tf Commendable. All claims not consistent with the high character of Syrup of Figs are purposely avoided by the California Fig Syrup Company. It acts gently on the kidneys, liver , and bowels, cleansing the system effectually, but it is not a cure-all and makes no pretensions that every bottle will not substantiate. ; Yard Master Lasblie Hurt. ' Mr. C. B. Lashlie, night yard mas ter of the Atlantic Coast Line at the old Union Depot yards, was severely hurt yesterday evening, about 5 o'clock, while a freight train was running under the bridge at Front street station. He was standing on top of a box car, and while the train was passing beneath the bridge it struck him qn the head above the right ear, inflicting an ugly gash and felling him from the top of the car. We are glad to know that his hurts are not dangerous and that he may get out again in a few days. A Klgliteous Move. " Hon. C. W. McClammy has made another move in the right direction. He has introduced a bill into the house to compel star route contrac tors to be residents of the section along which the route runs. This is right and proper. The mails on these routes are rarely carried by the contractors, who generally gob ble them up at good prices and then sublet them to somecody else at a mere pittance. We doubt if the bill will pass, for it will probably have the lobby against it. but it is a righteotrs measure and ought to become a law. "Star routes", by the way, are "horse routes." i ' : ' . ' i - Stedman Station. The Fayetteville Obsetver says that the first station out from Fay etteville on the Wilmington exten sion Of the C. F. & Y. V. R. R. and, in fact, the only one in Cumberland county east of the river bridge is at the point known as Blockerville, and promises to be one of the thriv ing places on the line of road. It receives its name in honor of the valuable and lamented Nathan Sted manj father of ex-Lieutenant Gov ernor Stedman, and for many years Treasurer of the Western Railroad and afterwards Cape Fear and Yad . Kin: Valley Railway. The Obsetver also says: "In the opening of the Wiliniugtpn exten sion we are glad to know that the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Rail way,! in its rapid progress in the de velopment of one of the most im portant works of internal improve ment in the South, has been reward ed by a very gratifying outcome of a .i . ousiness. limner, navai stores, merchandise and country produce await its freight trains at every sta tion; material enterprise has receiv ed marked stimulus in every coun try traversed bv the line: travel is good and daily increasing; and the experience of this admirable "North Carolina system," characterizing it since its important movement for ward in 18C9, following nature's great highway of commerce, is to day repeated in the business found ready to hand." In the treatment of all nervous and muscular diseases, such as rheu matism, neuralgia, sciatica, tic dou loureux, setnicrania, &c.,i ftie valuer of Salvation Oil cannot be cver-esti-mated. The play was Pygmalion and Galatea. In the main the performance was a good one, but not equal to that of the night previous, Vhich was truly excellent. Neither Miss Frost nor Mr. Collier seemed to rise to the full and complete conception of some of the scenes and passages. This was the case, notably, in the statue scene, which, properly rendered, is the most exquisite in the piece. But in other parts both showed an ex cellent and a close conception of the characters. The company close iheir engage ment to-night, on which occasion they will play the Marble Heart and we trust to a full house. They must come- and see us again. They have made many friends here and ve think we can promise them a hearty welcome on their next visit. Meteorological Summary. Mr. F. P.
