The advertising patronage appears to have been liberal. Mr. W. H. Yopp, oii South Front street, had in stock this morning the first strawberries we have seen here since the recent cold feather. They were from Mr,' J. 11. West brook's farm, iit Rocky Point, and sold for 35 cents a quart. A subscriber at Delta wrote to us on Thursday in regard to a failure in the regrrlar delivery of mail mat ter at Delta. We submitted the matter to Postmaster French and he at once took the matter in hand and has had it arranged. We do hot think there will be any .inore trouble. - " Mr. R. H. Dragged Her Anchors Ger. barque Carl Johann, while lying in the stream to day opposite Market Dock, with both her anchors out, dragged her anchors. A signal for a tug brought the Marie to her aid and she was towed to a dock. It is an unusual thing for a vessel to drag her anchor in this port and the circumstance sho K's with what an unusually terrific force the wind blew here this forenoon. The Sacred Concert. The sacred concert which has been in preparation for some time past will take place at the First Baptist Church on next Tuesday evening. It promises to be one of the most noted musical events on record here. It is to inaugurate, as it were, the new organ. Some of the very best amateur talent of the city, both vocal and instrumental, will take part in the concert and four of the best organists in the city will play on the new organ. Tickets are now on sale at the book stores. Nv Machine Ahops. Another item in the industrial progress of Wilmington is the estab lishment here of a new foundry and machine shops. Capt. S. G. Skinner is at the head of the enterprise. The works are to be established at the foot of Nun street and already some of the machinery has arrived and is being put in position. More of it is on the way and will soon be here. It is calculated to begin work in one month, say about the first of May. The machinery is all to be of the latest and most approved devices. The aterchant' Excursion. The General Committee on the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley ex cursion met at the house of- Col. F. W. Kerchner, and nearly every member was present. The chairman of the "Committee 011 Entertainment reported that every preparation was bejng made for the entertainment of onr guests on the 16th and 17th of April, and that all would be.in readiness at the appointed time. , The chairmanof the Committee on Invitation reported that the in vitations were readv and would be- forwarded immediately. vThe chairman of the ' Committee on Finance made ,his report, and stated that his committee had gone to work in earnest and were doing " evervthin for the success of the celebration. ' 7 . It was thought best to leave the time for the departure of the train from Mount Airy to the :officials of the Cape Fear and Yadkin Vallev railroad, so it is more than probable that, the excurtiouists will -4 arrive here on the evening of the 15th of April. - J' ' - After this the meeting adjourned. It was suggested that hereafter if a very large meeting of the commit tee wasdesiredit would be expedient to hold it agaiu.at the house of Col. Kerchner. The Ielicacy of Woman. ''Like the lily once mistress of the! ueiu, woman oiten nangs ner neaa and perishes, trusting to innocence and love to protect." Her eye may grow dim, her cheeks pale" before her lips will reveal the secret of her suffering. Appreciating this element in woman's nature. Dr. R. V. Pierce has prepared a remedy, called "Fa vorite Prescription," adapted espec ially for the diseases and weakness es peculiar to women, and placed the same on sale" bv druggists. Ask for the "Favorite Prescription," and yon can cure yourself without pub licity, and without being subject to the examinations of surgeons. Full directions with each ' bottle. It fs the only guaranteed cure. See guar antee on every bottle-wrapper. Forecasts. For Noith Carolina, rain today and fairer and colder on Sunday. For Wilmington and vicinity, threatening weather and rains. r : ; St. Paul's E. . Church. The services in St. Paul's E. L. Church, corner Market and Sixth street, Rev. F. W.E.Peschau,Pastor, to morrow (Sunday) ivill be in Ger man at 11 a. 111. and at 7.30 p. m. in English. All are welcome at the services. Commendable. All claims not consistent with the liigh character of Syrup of Figs are purposely avoided by the California Fig Syrup Company. It acts gently on the kidneys, liver and bowels, cleansing the system effectually, but it is not a cure-all and makes no pretensions that every bottle will not substantiate. A Mission at St. Paul's. Rev. Mr, Arnold announced at the services last night that a Mission will be held at St. Paul's from April 26 to May 7, conducted by the Gen eral Missioner of the "Parochial Mission Society", Rev. Gustav Arnold Carstensen, an eloquent, gifted and consecrated evangelist, who for several years past has con ducted missions in all of the leading cities of the country with remark able success. Mr. Arnold asked the co-operation of all church people in this effort to quicken spiritual life among us. A Gale of Wind. We had a real gale here last night and this forenoon, from the South west. The cautionarv signal was ordered up this morning but the halliards were fouled on the flag pole at the Signal office and the signals were raised on the pole a the Orton House. At noon the hal liards had been cleared and the flags were raised at the Signal office. The order for the signal included Char leston and Morehead and it is sail' that mere was a storm central in Tennessee, accompanied by rain. The Grand Jury Discharged. An ache or pain-i not of, Jtself a disease, it is but a symptom, and warns the sufferer that there is some thing the matter with his physical organization. The jury in the case of the Brown murder Itrial, which has been pend ing in the Criminal Court for the past two days, took- the case at C o'clock last evening. The court room was then cleared and the jury left in sole possession. At 8:15 o'clock Judge Meares was notified that they had agreed upon a verdict, and the jury came into court and through their foreman entered a verdict of not guilty. The verdict was receiv ed with applause by the spectators, which was with difficulty repressed by the officers of the court. Yates was released from custody and went to his home.
