T. Jamks, Editor & Prop. Wilmington, N. C. SATURDAY. MARCH 2U. 1890. Entered at the Postofficet W!lming$m. N.C., as second-class matter. The iuinfrnr palace now being erected in Pueblo, Colorado, will cost about 250,000. It will be of handsome design, the exterior being a series of square columns and beau tifully polished stone. The carving will be ornate. All parts of the building will be made of the pro duets of Colorado's miues. the own ers in all the counties in the State having xent in their choicest and richest specimens. In the interior will be seen every variety of in Ind eral production from stone and coal to.pure gold, the value of which will be at least $750,000. The expense of developing this grand and brilliant conception'will be assumed by the public-spirited citizens of Colorado. It is intended to be a permanent ex hibit, open every day the year round, and its originators deeire to have the choicest specimens of min eral wealth from every State in the Union represented Mde by side with the resources of Colorado. Building stone granite and marble is u fed de sired. The building will be lighted by :,0K) incandescent electric lights. It is the intention to reproduce this in duplicate of design and brilliancy of decoration and display, but some what reduced in size, at the Color ado mineral exhibit for the World's Fair in Chicago in 1802, should that scheme materialize. The statistical report of the De partment of Agriculture for March reiaiesio rne tiistrioution ana con sumption of corn and wheat. It. makes the proportion of the corn crop in the hands of growers 45.9 per cent., or 970,000,000 bushels: of the wheat crop 31 per cent., or 156,000, 000 --buslls. The stock of corn on nana is tne largest ever reported in March, of the largest crop, after the mildest . win ter. The average of eight an nual returns is 677,000,000 bushels; that of last year, 787,000,000 bushels. The estimated consumption to March I - is 1,143,000,000 bushels, a figure exceeded only last year and in 188G. The proportion of the mer chantable corn of the crop of 1889 is 85.7 per cent., exceeded in recent years only by these of 1884 and 1886. The average value of all corn on December 1 was 28.3 cents per bushel. The. average on March 1 was 27.9 cents for merchantable and 19.2 for unmerchantable, making an aggregate value of $35,000,000 less than the December estimate. The wheat crop of 1889 was exceeded by he crops of 1880, 1882 and 1884. The average remainder in the hands cf owners March 1, for 10 days past. las been 130,000,000 bushels. The average crop, miring tins period, 450,000,000 bushels. Only . in years taving a product much below this average has the March remainder fallen below 130,000,000 bushels, with the sole exception of 1886, when ti crop of 457,000,000 bushels followed one of 357,000,000. Most of the wheat in farmers' hands is in States which hwve no surplus over consumption, or in those in which much the larger portion is consumed at home. The six spring wheatStateshave only 45, 000, 000 bushels 18,000,000 bushelsof which will be requited for spring seed, and the remainder is scarcely more than four months' consumption of their population. Ohio, Michigan, In diana, Illinois, Missouri, and Kan sas, the onlv winter wheat States east of the Rocky Mountains con tributing to commercial distribu tion, have only 60,000,000 bushels, half of which will be needed at home, and a part of the remainder is commercially unavailable at pres ent prices. It is seen, therefore, that the available supply for expor tation and for htiiiie consumption to Julv is small. Don't Feel Well. SCROFULA It Is that Impurity in the blood, which, ac cumulating in the glands of the neck, pro duces unsightly lumps or swellings; which causes painful running sores on the arms, legs, or feet; which developes ulcers in the eyes, ears, or nose, often causing blindness or deafness; which is the origin of pimples, can cerous growths, or the many other manifesta tions usually ascribed to "humors;" which, fastening upon the lungs, causes consumption and death. Being the most ancient, it is the most general of all diseases or affections, for very few. persons are entirely free from it. How Can CUREP It Do By talcing Hood's Sarsaparilla, which, by the remarkable cures it has necompushed. often when other medicines have failed, has proven Itself to be a potent and peculiar medicine for this disease. Some of these cures are really wonderful. If you suffer from scrofula, be sure to try Hood's Sarsaparilla. 44 Hy daughter Mary was afflicted with scrof ulous sore neck from the time she was 22 months old till she became six years of age. Lumps formed in her neck, and one of them after growing to the size of a pigeon's egg, became a running sore for over three years. We gave her Hood's Sarsaparilla, when the lump and all Indications of scrofula entirely disP appeared, and now she seems to be a healthy child." J. S. Carlile, Nauright, N. J. N. B.
