Pennsylvania elects a Governor next Fall and the Democrats wil! make a hard fight to .win. The sit uation there H very interesting. Does Quay fine hand is seen in everything. He essays to notuipate a candidate of his own, irrespective of the wishes of his party, and if he persists there will be lively times ahead, j Already there is some very nice music In the airland the band -J are merely turning op and nave not ye timed on full blast from the lungs. Quay has promised to nom inate Gov. W. Dclamater, a very wealthy man and one, whom the boss can hold iu Ins hand, and if this is done thn, acconling to the best anthoritie. the JJemocrata are a sure to win'as that the elect Ion is held. We find in the NewYork,S'tar a lengthy and inteir-hting article on the .-it mi t ion. It in from the pen of a coripoudeiit at Me.-idvillo aiid froji) it" we make onie f-.xtracts. The correspondent favsf'Thereare onlv two real candidates before the Re publican party the one is Quay's candidate, Senator Delanmter, and the other General D. H. Hastings. While Alleghany county, which fc ( 'hris Magee's biiiliwick, will pre" sent Mnjor Montooth, ah . of the elements opposed to 5Ir. Quay's domination will eventually settle upon Mr. Hastings, with Chris Magee as the leader of their opposi tion totbe great boss of Republican Pennsylvania. This conditio ot affairs presents some very interest ing complications. Mr. Quay has now got to face a condition where he must either surrender Delaniater or depend upon a serious revolt in his party. He is a very positive, force ful and arbitrary man, and the chances are that he will insist upon tne nomination or ueiamater re gardless of the rapidly developing political revolution against hiui In 1882, when John Stewart, now Judge of Franklin county1, ran as an Independent Republic4n candi date for Governor, and thus defeat ed General Beaver, he polled less than 50,000 votes, because many Re publicans, fearing that they could not beat General Beaver, voted di rectly for the Democratic candidate, and elected him. It is evident from the temper that is being thns early displayed that the revolutionists will do. the .same this year. The only question that now remains to be settled is whether or not Mr. Quay will insist on naming Delama- ter, whom he has promised to nom inate, or whether he will regard the success of his party as paramont to all other considerations and let the Convention have its own way. Mr. Quay is the real master of the situa tion, and can do as he pleases, but if he forces the nomination of Dela mater a Democrat will be elected Governor. That is as certain as that the election will beheld. Already the Independent Republican spirit, is Carolina IS 90. JUDGES. : DISTRICT. "Tne Republican side of this en gagement is not the only interest ing political contest we arc having. In view of thfr-fact that the Demo crats are liable to haVe an excellent chance of electing their candidate for Governor, ther? is a great deal of interest developing as to who their candidate ill be. Ex-Senator W. A. Wallace has positively an nounced himself a candidate for the nomination. So has ex-Governor Beaver. Se has ex-Governor Patti son, who six years ago beat Gov ernor Heaver. Then there are three or four others in the Democratic! party who may be brought oatj wheirthe convention meets; but the! a real contest is between Wallace and Pattison, with a very decided likeli hood that the ex Senator from Clearfield county will carry off the prize. Should Wallace be named as the Democratic candidate, he will make a remarkable campaign that will bring fresh enthusiasm to the Democratic hosts. No man in the State could be nomiuated " by the Democracy who will give, the- cam paign a better-tpirit than Mr. -Wab lace. One interesting feature of the fight is the expressed desire of all the factious in the Democratic party that the strongest man in the State should be named. There is a vTtVrr nmlerstandiuir.
