Governor Camp- ell, of Ohio, and Henry Watterson, of the .Louisville Courier Journal, will address the Convention on the 28th. The recent victories in Iii" diana have greatly enthused the Democratic editors, and their issues ast week were profusely illustrated with crowing roosters. The banquet given last night by the citizens of Wilmington to our vistiner cuests. tin the hall of the r-tc 7 Champion Compress Co., was a fit- tine- cloue to a delightful season which, notithftanding the draw back of the very disagreeable wea ther, was, we believe, heartily en joyed by each and every one of our cuests. The spread was laid under the direction of. Mr. Edward H. Smith, manager of the'Orton House. and was a delightful one, in every respect. The ha.ll was beautiful with gay flags and bright streamers and brilliantly lighted by electricity There were ten tables, of a tota length of 900 feet, and tliey were beautifully adorned with flowers and evergreens. The national col ors of England, Germany, Austria Italy, Denmark and the United States were among the decorations of the hall. The music was furnish ed by the Germania Cornet Band who were seated on a stand special lv nrnvided for , them. ODDOSite .; " J that was the stand occupied by Mr. J. H. Currie, toast master. Yesterday afternoon and last night" witnessed the closing scenes n the great railroad celebration. The parade of the fire department rinar the afternoon was the finest ever seen in tnis city., ine pro- gtamme as previously arranged was carried out to the letter. A strong force of police, nearly 30 in number under command of Col. E. D. Hall, ed the way. They marched by the ront, in single file, and kept a beau tiful line, which was almost as pre cise as a military one. Mayor Fow- ler and Alderman Morton, of the Fire Committee of the Beard of Al dermen, followed in a carnage, af ter which came-Chief Newman tnd Assistant Chief Cazaux, in full uni form, in the Chiefs fire wagon. Then came the Germania Cornet Band, in full uniform, Howard Relief Fire Engine Co. No. 1, Wilmington Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1, Wilmington Steam Fire Engine Co, No. 1 and Fifth Ward Hook and Ladder ?o., with engines, hose reels and trucks Old Harry Brock, the handsome and faithful superannuated horse, and the hero of hundreds of fires, was also in the line, led by masters James Taylor and HerbertPeterson. The parade passed down Front Street to Market and up Market to Third, where it was .dismissed, and in a few minutes thereafter Chief Nowrmnn sounded an alarm from box 14, at the City Hall. Then en sued re. race for the hydrants at the stations assigned and in less than two minutes from the tap of the bell the Atlantic hose reel had run out a line of hose, had - made con npp.tlnn w ith the hvdrant corner of Front and Chestnut streets and was throwing water. The Adrian hfivs. - almost simultaneously and really but a few seconds later, had done the same with the hydrant at the corner of Front and i'rincess streets. The streets were thronged with people, packed almost like sar dines in ji box, but yet the police managed to keep the track clear. Then came the ladder work by the members of W. H. & L. Co. No. 1, in front of the Orton House. A 50 foot ladder was run put and on it a trt'.p was fixed for the pipemeu to stand on and hose was carried up and water thrown. The ladder wus made to reverse and the water could bethrown in any direction. Both engines had their men, by turns, at this novel work. The Hook and gadder Company jilso made a fine display with their ladders reared upon the Bank of. New Hauover building. NEW ADVKHTISBMKNT8. Dissolution.
