Government, under the act of Congress of June 30th, 1874, foi his gallant and heroic conduct in saving life at Wrightsville Beach last Summer. It is a magnificent medal, of solid gold, and in be?uit i fully and appropriately engraved. It is estimated" that there is $70 worth of gold in the medal. It was received by Mr. Warren through Mayor Fowler, to whom it was sent, and it will be worn by its gallant re cipient as a memento of one of the greatest events of his. life. The medal will be left in Mr. Hon net's jewelry window for a few days, where it may be seen. . ... Stuck in the Chimney. , Aii attempt was made early yes terday morning to rob the store of Mr. John E. Henry, at Long Creek. A colored man, whose name we could not learn, tried to get into the store by slipping down the chimney. He got nearly to the bottom and there the flue narrowed and he stuck fast, utterly unable to move iu any direction. On realizing this fact he began to scream for help. Mr. Hen ry heard his cries and went to the store. He was at first unable to tell fromwhence they came but finally saw the man's legs hanging down into the fife-place. He procured as sistance and the thief was drawn up to the top of the house by means of ropes secured under his arms and about his waist. He was yesterday taken to Burgaw and lodged in jail. The reports of correspondents of the Weekly Weather Crop Bulletin, issued by the. North Carolina Ex periment Station and State Weather Service, co-operatiog with the Uui ted States Signal Service, show that there has "been a decided excess of .rainfall, but about the normal con dition of temperature and sunshine during the week ending Friday, Ma? 30th, 1890. The following especially-heavy weekly rainfalls have been reported: Weldon, Halifax county 2.8& inches; Southport, Brunswick county, 2.38: Lumberton, Robeson county, 5.07- Wadesboro, Anson county, 2.55; JonesUoro, Moore county, 4.00 (estimated); Charlotte,Mecklenburg county, 3.28; Dallas, Gaston county, 3.93. No damage is reported except from a few counties where the overflowing streams damaged the lowlands crops. The averagej"ainfall'f6r the week for the State was i.85Jnches, which is 1 inch above the normal, the gen- ral effect being-very favorable upon crops. A comparison of the condi tion and progress of crops during May, 1890, with the corresponding period last year, shows-that the sea son is not only farther advanced this year, but the condition of almost all crops is far better, so chat with nor mal weather the 'season of 1890 is likely to prove a splendid one. The poor in nocent has probably inherited ca tarrh and is not responsible for its sore and iilthy nostrils. Did you know that tender, soft, thin skin lining the nostrils, called the mucous membrane, extends all over the body. Every organ in the system and every orifice at the surface has this thin delicate lining as a protec tor. So you see what a fix the body is thrown into when the mucous membrane becomes irritated and in flamed by constant friction with poisonous matter in the blood. Ca tarrh, leucorhear and piles result frequently fro i this condition of af fairs. These diseases'are mere sympj toms of impoverished blood. ' Now B B B or Botanic Blood Balm, will by enriching the blood cause all such synitoms to disappear. Give it a trial. Henry .Reeves, Shellruan, Ga., writes: "Any'iiian or woman who is suffering from piles and will not use Botanic Blood Balm is a 'tool, and it takes me to tell them so, for I suffered two years with bleeding piles-, and B B B relieved me at once." J. J. Hardy, Toccoa, Ga., writes: 4B B B is a quick cure for -catarrh. Three bottles cured me. ' I had been troubled several years.' James W. Lancaster, Hawkins ville, Ga,, writes: My wife was in bad health for eight years. Five doctors and as many, or more differ ent patent medicines bad done her no good. The idea seem ed to be that an amount not to ex ceed 00,000 be expended for this purpose and that if necessary bonds to this amount, bearing interest at a rate not to exceed 4i per cent, be is sued.
