Tickets on sale at Yates'. Around About Chadbonrn. Mr. James H. Chadbourn, Jr., General Manager of the W., C. & C. R. R., was in the city to-day and from him we learn that the crop prospects in his section, are at this time most excellent. The farmers are in excellent spirits and are look ing ahead to a prosperous year, hoping that they will be able to get on their feet once more. There was a fine rain at Chadbourn 'last even ing, although none fell here. An Ancient Tool. Capt. F. M. James, the venerable mason of this city, has shown us the identical trowel with which he first began work, ever so many j-ears ago, in Nantuck'et, Mass., with Mr. Jere B. Wood, father of the late Messrs. John C. aiid R. B. Wood. Capt. James was but eight years old at the time. The trowel is different altog'ether from those used at the present day. The blade is Very small, being scarcely more than an inch and a half wide or long. , Democratic Primaries. Low. s - Mr. James H. Low, father of Mrs. I Arm and L. DeRosset, and a gentle -i man well known to manv in this city, died at his residence in the city of New Orleans last night and Capt. DeRosset was' this morning notified - of the sad event by telegraph. The remains will be brought here for in terment. Mr. Low was a resident of this city during the war and for some years subsequent to its close. He was a consistent, conscientious ember of tne Baptist Cnursn, and lived and died in that communion. Tlie ltecatta Season. A meeting of the Regatta Com mittee of the Carolina Yacht Club was held yesterday afternoon at Mr. M. S. Willard's office and it was de cided then to have regular regattas as follows during the season:. Two in July, on Friday, the Fourth, at 11 a. m., and on Monday, the 2"8th, at 4 p. m. ; one in August, on Satur day, the 9th, at 3:30 p. m., and one in September, on Monday, the 8th, at 3:30 p. m. These, as we have stated, are to be the regular races but others will probably be announced, from time to time . His First Visit in 38 Years. Cicero M. Richardson, formerly of this city but for years past a resi dent of Cleveland, Ohio, where he is oiie of the most prominent colored citizens of the place, is here on a visit to Jos. E. Sampson, Register of Deeds. He lefthere 33 years ago and this is his first visit since to Wilmington. He is a well known mason and hai? put up many sub stantial brick and stone buildings in Cleveland. He finds but few left whom he knows yet some of our older citizens have recognized him at once He is a hale, hearty-looking man and is said to be-very wealthy. He leaves on his return to Cleveland in a few days. Death ot Mrs. Flanner. Mrs. Susan A." Flanner, widow of the late Mr. Bennett Flanner, died at her residence in this city last evening, after a prolonged illness, and the remains were interred in Oakdale Cemetery this afternoon, the following gentlemen acting as pahSbearers: Col. James G. Burr, James F. Post, Jr., Col. J. J. Hed riwk, Gol. Jno. D. Taylor, Capt. R. F. Langdon and Col. Roger Moore. Mrs. Flanner was born in New bern, in 1812, and was consequently 78 years of. age. Her maiden name was Green. She was married to the late Mr. Bennett Flanner, for many years previous to the war one of our largest and most successful dealers in naVal stores. She was an earnest, truthful and consistent christian and a member of the Methodist Episcopal communion for many years past. - At Carolina Beacti Yesterday.
