KOYAL BAKING POWDE C O. .106 Wall St., N. Y. ccl28 dJfcWlr tennn 4thrxWrclpw SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 1890. STATE NEWS. Afcheville Citizen: Mr. A. J." Ly man has sold for Mr. C. W. Whar ton, of Philadelphia. 19 acres of land in South Asheville, 'adjoining the property owned by Maj. McDowell, to the Asheville Park and Hotel company ior 20,000. Mr. Wharton bought the property three years ago for $3,500. : Rockingham Rochet: With good rains daring the past week the crop prospect, especially cotton, contin ues very promising throughout this section of .the State. Indeed the reports are unusually flattering for an abundant yield of the favorite staple. Without an accident we look for the biggest crop since the war in Richmond county. - Greensboro Patriot: Just after the match game of base bull at War nersville, in the southern suburbs of the city, between the Graham and Greensboro nines, all colored, in which the Grahams were badly beaten, ou Monday evening. Doc Watson, the captain of the Graham nine, assauled Bob Kdwell, a colored spectator, with a bat breaking it over his head. A free fight took place, a, number of the participants being badly used up. Kdwell died this morning his skull having been fractured. : ;. Charlotte Xcux: Miss Lucy Wn's ton, who has already woiia wonder ful reputation as a musician for one so young, will go to .New York in September to further cultivate her talent. She will be with Miss Line back. - A note from a daughter' of Judge Shipp this morning says that not much change can be seen in his condition since yesterduy, but he is no weaker, lie passed quite a comfortable night. -Charlotte's wholesale drug trade is not only a thing of burprising magnitude but is still increasing and at a rapid rate. As an evidence of what is being Xlone in that line, it might be cited that Uurwell &: Dunn yesterday shipped l.'3 boxes of goods ti cus tomers in different parts of thisStatc jand adjbiuiug States. Is Char lotte to have the Richmond & Dan ville shops after all? That is a ques tion that has been asked in a quiet manner for a day or so past and those who have ventured an opin ion .say that they think so. The company is buying up large tracts of. land iivthe vicinity of the Air Line Junction, just north of the city. The big cotton compress is to be located there, but as the company will not need a couple of hundred acres for the compress alone, it has leaked out that the extra ground is wanted for the ite of the ran road fihops. The Presbv terian Home re cently bought from Mr. K.' M. An drews a tract of land near the junc tion for the Home, and the raiiroad wui(jttu; uiii mis iuiiu it ii oi ner adjacent tracts. The company lias been endeavoring to-secure an op tion on the Home tract, but .n trus tee to-day told a News reporter that the negotiations had not been con 1 eluded. It is understood that the company has already secured 100 acres at the junction. ' Let the shops come. Monroe Register: Very gratifying reports come from all parts of the , State in regard to the growing crops. The prospects.. all over the State for tine crops are good, and if all goes well the people will indeed be happy. The cotton crop is every -where reported to be in a remark ably fine condition, better than it has been at this seasou for many years past. The condition of the tobacco crop is also fair. The wheat crop is even lower than was at Grst anticipated, it being 30 per cent, lower than the average. The cotton and corn crop of this county is in better condition than it has "been at this season fdr years. So far as we can learn, there is not more than one third of the average crop of grain in this county. In some sec tions good crops were made but iu other seetlons it was a total failure. Mr. 8. L. Mullis, of Goose Creek township, reports that on the last day of May, while in the clover patch near the house, his little son who was with him was bitten on the foot by a black adder. The child, when bitten, was only a feu' steps from his fattier. Mr. ii nil is, hearing the child scream ran to Irim and found his foot swelling. He quickly ran to the house, and obtained some whiskey, castor oil and gunpowder. He gave some of the whiskey to the child to drink, and put some on the wound. Then putting on s uite f the gunjowder thoroughly saturat ed with castor oil he applied fire to it. The composition burned for sey ' eral minutes until it was entirely - consumed, dating which time the little fellow bore the pain with much bravery and fortitude. In half an hour the pain from the bite had en tirely gone, and the patient is now all right, save the sore caused by the burn. - Hncklen's Arnica 8lv.
