"Never before! since Sedan has she seemed so terri bly alone. The necessity of secur ing an ally at any cost stares her in the face. She will move heaven and earth to make friends with the Op position in Italy and to help that Opposition to overthrow Chrispi and remove the kingdom from the triple alliance, but with equal earn estness and much more confidence will address herself anew to the task of coaxing the indolent and bigoted Czar into a handfast partnership. It : is a difficult job, but Well informed Frenchmen think it can be man aged. Certainly there never was so much chance of Jt before. Under this spur-France will block all busi ness in Egypt with added aggress iveness, and throw all her weight at Constantinople on the side of Rus bian intrigues in the Eastern ques tion.'' The friends of the late S: S. Cox are very much annoyed by the ac- lion oi ine two rtonses oi congress iu the matter of setting apart days for the delivery of eulogies in his memory. The date for the eulogies in the House was postponed two or three times, and then the addresses were made on a day when very few members and comparatively no spectators were present, and now the Senate has added totheiridigna tion of Mr. Cox's friends by post poning for the fourth time the day set tor listening to the eulogies by Senators. Mr. Evarts is responsible for these delays, as he has charge of khe matter in the Senate. On three different occasion he has risen in his place in the Senate and post poned the day agreed upon. Ac cording to the Congressional Record Mr. Evarts has done this on his own responsibility, withouteven asking leave of the Senate. He simply arises and announces that the date has qeen postponed. June 12 was the first day selected, and Mr. Evarts changed it to tlie 19th, then to the 26th, ond now he has further post poned the" date to July 1. "The Queen's life at Balmoral," says "Tlie jLady,7- 'is exceedingly simple. She breakfasts in her apartments between 9 and 10. Some- time Princess Beatrice and other members of the family who may be staying at the castle take the mat utinal meal with her, but ofttimes she breakfasts alone, and her fam ily have a movable feast in the large dining room. The suite have a spe cial fining room set apart for them, and there they can take their meals together, except on particular oc- casidns, when they are invited to ler Majesty's table. These invita- iomi, however, are never issued for breakfast, for the Queen prefers to be alone, in order that she may res fleet over the programme of the day. Shortly after 10 the Queen begins to devote herself to the affairs of the nation, runs throngh the dispatches which are sent to her daily by the ministers, and, with the help of Sir Henry Ponsonby, jots down replies, Sir Henry acting as secretary. The work Is usually over by 1, about which time the Queen's messenger starts for London'with the Queen's dispatches to the ministers. At 1 o clock the Queen, lunches. After wards she goes for a drive or one of her vigorous walks, which are so trying to the less energetic of her ladies-in-waiting. The dinner hour i not till 9. After dinner the usual practice is that the Queen makes a few observations of her guests, and about 11 retires to her private apart luenty. Of late, however, there have been changes in the evening pro grammes in the direction of a great er gayety." . r" ' Every dog has his day and Sun- day belongs to the growler.. Tlie New DU covery. C. Davis, Elder M. E. Church South, " No. 28 Tatnall St., Atlanta, Ga. SCROFULA It is that impurity in the blood, which, ac cumulating in the glands of the neck, pro duces unsightly lumps or swellings; which causes painful running sores on the arms, legs, or feet; which developes ulcers in the eyes, ears, or nose, often causing blindness or deafness; which is the origin of pimples, can cerous growths, or the many other manifesta tions usually ascribed to "humors;" which fastening upon the lungs, causes consumption and death. Being the most ancient, it is the most general of all diseases or affections, for I very few persons are entirely free from it. HowCanQygp By taking Hood's Sarsaparilla, which, by the remarkable cures it has accomplished, often when other medicines have failed, has proven itself to be a potent and peculiar medicine for this disease. Some of these cures are really wonderful. If you suffer from scrofula, be sure to try Hood's Sarsaparilla. . My daughter Mary was afflicted with scrof ulous sore neckfrom the time she was 22 months old till she became six years of age. Lumps formed in her neck, and one of them after growing to the size of a pigeon's egg, became a running sore for over three years. We gave her Hood's Sarsaparilla, when the lump and all indications of scrofula entirely dis appeared, and now she seems to be a healthy child." J. S. Cabxile, NauTight, N. J. N. B.
