A large' number of ladies went dowa.to Wrightsville this afternoon to witness the last dress parade of the season, j The peculiar enervating effect of summer weather is driven off by Hood's Sarsaparil la, which "makes the weak strong." A dispatch was received to-day at 12 o'clock, from Saratoga, which stated that Dr. Uoge's symptoms were all favorable. Keep dry j and you will keep healthy, j Umbrellas, rubber coats, ire:, at I. Seventy-five per cent of those families are at the seacoast, near the city, which Is a reversal of the old order, brought about by the open ing of summer resorts here. Louise Goodwin, who has been a resident of Wilmington for three years, has concluded to remove to Richmond. She is a charming and accomplished young lady and what is our loss is Richmond's gain. Our best wishes will follow her to her new home. i A Prompt and Liberal Kesponse. At the regular Sunday evening services in Grace Church last night au effort and a very successful one it proved was made to cancel , the debt on the church. An earnest ap peal was made by the pastor and in a short time the sum of $5,500, which is $1,5C0 more than was called for, was raised. . H .Jfirand Family Excursion. - j The Mengert Mission Circle of St. Paul's Evang. Lutheran Church will give a grand family excursion to Carolina Beach on Wednesday. There will be some good music and refreshments will be served by the ladies. The committee of arrange merits consists of Mr. J. If. Reh der, chairman, and Messrs. .F. E. Hashagen, C. H. Steminermann and F. Seitter. A good time may bo ex pected by all who attend. I Crops and Politic. A friend at Burgaw writes us that the crop prospects in that section are not so bright now as they were a few weeks ago. The excessive rains we have had of late have injured the crops to a considerable extent. Early corn was about made before the wet weathert set in. but late corn, cotton, peas and potatoes are feel ing the effects of .the rains. The political pot is boiling beautifully In Pender now. Candidates are as thick as blackberties in June and both sides seem confident of success. The Mass Meeting To-Night At the German mass meeting to be held at 8.30 tonight in Luther Memorial Building shbrt interesting addresses will be delivered by Col. F. W. Kerchner, Mr. Sol. vBear and others. J ! Germans, the descendants of Ger mans aud those identified with tlie Germans by marriage, are kindly and respectfully requested to be present. . The executive committee will meet at 7.30 o'clock, one hour before the time of the mass meeting. i Weekly Weather Crop Bulletin. The reports of correspondents j of the Weekly Weather Crop Bulletin, issued by tho North Carolina Ex periment Station and State Weather Service, co-operating with the Uni ted States Signal Service, show that the past week has been cloudy and comparatively cool with heavy rains, especially in the central and west ern portions of the State. The bight est temperature was 92 degrees, the lowest CO. The average rain fall was 2.71 inches, which is 1.34 inches above normal. The excessive rains have caused streams to overflow, in juring low land cro ps. Cotton is still shedding, but no serious damage reported. ' Except at a few places the tobacco crop seems to be in ex cellent condition.aithough too much rain has fallen for it also. The cur ings are reported good. Notwith standing excessive raiuof the past two weeks the prospects are not at all discouraging. A week of warm fair weather will improve all crops and restore good spirits to our fann ers. . . " OUR FRIEND THE BED HUG. If you would quickly and perma nently ritl youcbeds of bugs, put a small box of ROUGH ON RATS in a pint bottle of benzine, shake well when using. Douche the mixtnre into the cracks, crevices, holes and openings of the bedstead. It will turn their toes up rapidly. Then mix another small b,ox of ROUGH ON RATS thoroughly, with a quar ter pound of lard, with this mixture fill all holes, openings, cracks and crevices lu the bed. These two. . methods are warranted tq never fad? a A i t to Le effective and lasting. Cat this for iirQcyon - - . . - Forecasts. For STorth Carolina, fair weather, except local showe 8 on the south east coast,' slightly cooler in the east and stationarv teunerature in western portion. The Ladles Delighted. The pleasant effect and the per fect sa "ety with .'which j ladies may use the liquid fruit laxative, -Syrup of Figs under all conditions make it their fa vorite remedy. It is pleas ing to the eye and to the taste, gen tle, vet effectual in actincr on the kidiieys, liver-and bowels. Not Oar Omission. . m Our attention has been called, to the fact that in publishing the spec ial to the Charleston World relative to the failure of Rev. Sam Jones to appear at the great camp meeting at Wesley Grove, the introductory portion of the dispatch was omitted, which read as follows: The great camp meeting of the Southern Methodists at Wesley Grove has been almost a complete failure religiously owing to a dis agreement among the church mem bers in reference to the Rev. Sam Jones. . j We did not copy from the World, but got the item at second hand from an exchange in this State and are sure that the introductory part did not appear therein. Vexatious Dalays. Therehas been delay in operations on the W., O. & E. C. R. R. because of failure to receive the iron, which should have been here a week ago. Several cargoes are en route and ex pected at any time. One of the vessels sailed as-long ago as July 27th this making the fifteenth day she has been out. She is probably laid ud in some nort. waitintr favorable winds. There is a vexatious delay, also, as to the locomotive and the Dasseneer cars ordered. These should have been here last week but their construction has been delayed because of a pressure of orders : at the shops. It is hoped that these will arrive this week, however. If thy do not, somo other and tem porary arrangement will probably be effected and a schedule will I be announced. ' In the, meantime there is a. regular daily passenger and frdight service on the road between this city and Sloop Point. The company, we understand, sjill hope to reach Jacksonville bjr the first of October. OnCe there, the work toward Newbern is to be push ed rapidly ahead. Blood Diseases. Blood diseases are-terrible on ac count of their loathsome nature, arid the fact that they wreck the consti tution so completely unless the proper antidote is applied. B. B. B. (Botanic Blood Balm) is composed of the true antidote for blood poison. Its use never fails to give satis fac tion. Mrs. Laura Hart,' Beau fort, S. C, writes: "A loathsome form of blood poison was killing me. My appe tite was lost, my bones ached, and parts of my flesh seemed as if It would come off my bones. A friend brought me a bottle of B. B. B. The sores began healing at once, and when I had taken two bottles I sur prised my f riends at my rapid recov ery." I W. A. Bryant, Moody, Tex, wrrites: "I had an agonizing case of Salt Rheum for four years, which medi cine I took only seemed to aggra vate until I found B B B. It cured my'hand, which resembles a burnt surface. It also cured my two chil dren of itch, which had resisted pre vious treatment." I NEW ADVKKTISEMKNTS.
