King, Superintendent of the County Poor House and House f PnrrPf lion, offers in this issue a reward of t20 for the capture of Pe ter Walker, colored, who escaped while at work yesterday in one of the county fields. The guard saw- Walker stoop down for a moment or two, and then get up and run, dodg intr through the corn. The guard pursued the prhonerand fired twice, bat failed to stop Walker, who made hf pscnue into a swamp, where it is supposed he concealed himself. Mr. King, the superintendent, made dil igent search for the man but tailed to find him. Walker was shackled audit is supposed that he had in some way obtained a file with 'which h i m im-.nl to cut the chain con nected with the irons on each leg. He was s'erving a twelve mouths' term for assault with a deadly weapon. Work was resumed ou the lecture room of the First Baptist Church yesterday. The large tank there is Kept full of water, pure and sweet, drawn from n. denth of 4'J feet in the i soil and pumped constantly. At a depth of 50 feet the borers encountered hand rock. Pipes have been laid up and down thelbeach and cottagers are having, the water introduced into their house?. We have always heard that thet)est water is found on the verge of the sea and this is a case in point. - i Another Shooting. Scrape. Information was lodsed at the CityiHall to-day, about 11 o'clock, to the effect that a colored woman by the name of Clara New was shot in the stomach this morning, be tween 8 and 9 o'clock, by a colored man by the name of Julius Biood worth. The wound is from a pistol ball and is just to the right of ;the pit of the stomach. Dr. Potter; at tended the wounded woman and he pronounces her condition as not se rious. He thinks the ball did jnot penetrate to the hollow. He probed for it but did not find it. Blood worth has taken to the woods but will probably be captured. The cause of the shooting seems to ;be unknown, as yet. j "' Mission Services. Rev. Mr. Arnold, of this city, opened the mission services at Rr Srenhen's Eoiscopal Church w w i t in Goldsboro on Monday night Th services were well -attended U the residents of Goldsboro, irrespective of denominational differences. The Dispatch says that "there was a hearty spirit or devo tion in all the service, and all jat tending must have been benefited, It is safe to say that the congrega tions through the week will be even larger.' The tame paper also gives a pen and Ink picture of Mr. Arnold which be pronounced a very good one by those, in this city who have seen that gentleman in the pulpit." It says; .
