' - They Favor Wilmington. , A gentleman who has recently travelled over the Carolina Central and the C. F. & Y. V. roads tell us that Wilmington is running Rich-J mond pretty close now In the way of selling heavy groceries. The peo pie of Mount Airy and that section, In especial, seem particularly desir ous of doing all their trading here and all things being equal they will do it. . It is for our merchants to see that they can buy to as , good ad-i vantage here as anywhere else. Will Tender Hla Resignation. ' We regret very much to learn that Rev. Mr. Arnold will probably leave Wilmington for a new field of labor. He notified his congregation last night that he would to morrow hand in his resignation of the pastoral charge of St. Paul's Church. He may, or may not, accept the charge of St. Stephen's, In Goldsboro. - We will be sorry to see Mr- Arnold leave Wilmington. He has worked faithfully and untiringly here and has accomplished a great deal of good. ' Grading Camp Latimer. Yesterday's Goldsboro Argus says: Mr. A.. P. Holland was in town to day looking for teams to use in his work of grading the parade ground at Camp Latimer on Wrightsville Sound, the contract for which was awarded him. He could only get six teams at VrightsviIle and needs as many more. He says the job will last him three months and he is go ing to sink all his money in it. But that may be a joke! There is some vprv lieavv eradinir to be done: hills levelled and ravines filled and it will ftosfc the Stato' 25.t00 to put the grouud in-such shape as it should hp. Not more than 10.000 will be expended at this time. Superior Court. . ' The Fall terui of the New Han-: Snnerior Court convened here this morning for the trial of cases on the docket. Mr. Jones arrived here on Satur day evening and preached mat night at the Tabernacle. He also preached on yesteiday morning, in the afternoon and at night, the lat ter sermon being for men only. The attendance during the day was large but doubtless a great many more would have attended but for the in clement weather. Last night's meet ing was for men only. There was not a lady in the house, but the mas culine persuasion was out In force. It was by far the largest congrega tion yet in the tabernacle and the estimate Is that there were 0,000 per sons there. Trie-service opened with prayer by Mr. Jones, after which he preached from Gen. It promotes health In various ways. Many: of the func tions ot the body go on better under its influences, andv without ft the blood becomes impoverished. While a complete deprivation of salt would produce disastrous -results, an ex cessive use ofj it Iwoull scarcely be less harmful. In large doses it acts as an emetic; in quantities beyond the requirements ofhealth it irritat es the stomach and intestines and sometimes purges. Those who use salt unusually freely almost always suffer more or less from constipa tion. . : j- '-"i To drink large quantities of water daily should be the rule with those who suffej: from constipation. Each day the system needs at least two quarts of water, as about that quantity is used up or thrown out of it every 24 hours,. Fruit and vege table foods contain much water, and in tea, coffee, soups, &AM consider able is taken habitually. In all ways, as stated, about, two quarts of water, should enter the stomach daily. It is a good plan to drink one or' two glasses of water from half an hour vtoi an hour before eating breakfast!, and it may be either hot or cold a$ preferred. Whichever is used, the; water; should be slowly sipped. 'fTo deluge the stomach with cold water would !be -'to 'invite dyspeptic troubles. ; . '. Weekly WeatlierCrop Btflletln. ... T ' The reports of, correspondents of the Weekly Weather Crop Bulletin, issued by. the North . Carolina Ex periment Station and State Weather Service, co-operating with the Uni ted States Signal Service, show that tho past week, has been favorable for farm work except in the South ern portion of the State where there has been insufficient sunshine and continual light showers, .which, though doing no great damage to crops, prevented their being gather ed. In the Northern portion of tbe State the"weather was favorable for picking Tjotton and cutting tobacco, the temperature and 'sunshine be ing about the average., A genera rain prevaneu on ine zotn ana was especially heavy in the Southeastern portion of the Eastern District. Wil mington, New Hanover county, re ports total rainfall for tho week of 4.83 inches, of which about 3.50 fell on the 25th; Rocky Point, 'Pender county, 4.10 inches. Cotton is be iug picked as rapidly as the weather will permit; and corn is being gatlv ered. ; Within the next week the. to bacco crop will probably be secured. The wet weather has hindered the saving of fodder and damaged much of It. Farmers are preparing land for winter wheat. Reports indicate that the smaller crops, turnips, peas and potatoes ; will give an abundant yield J The average date of the' first killing frost is .
