The alarm of lire last night about 7.30 o'clock came from the South east corner of Church and Sixth streets. It caught 611 the roof of the residence of Mr. Wr J. Hutsou, on the corner.. Only the upper part of the'house was, damaged and there was some injury to the "house ad joining, occupied by Mr. W. F. New ton. .Both were the property of Mr. Geo. W. M Mclntire, of this city, offered at the Red Springs Fair a premium of $5.0 to the young man who had arrived at the age of 2i years who could make affidavit that he had never touched intoxicating liquors as a beverage; and we have seen a very kind letter from Mr. Mc Intire, enclosing a checkv to Mr. J. T. Wright, 22 years old, a son of Mr. T. T. Wright, of this city, who bore off the prize. The late alarm of fire last night, sounded about midnight, was found to be on Eagle Island, opposite the city, but not "acrosss the river," as one of our enterprising corning 60 temporaries has put It.?
