Library Association. The growth of attendance and membership of the Library Associa tion seem to be increasing hand somely. The daily attendance has increased from an average of 13 in May to 21 in October, and 28 in No vember; while this month there have been as many as C2 persons entering the rooms in a single day. Over 40 per cent, of the attendance is after the lights are turned on. A count of! the numbrr of books and period i cals taken out show 113 volumes in September, 149 In October, and 220 in!Noveraber, of which over half are periodicals. New members are join ing all the time; 5 in September, 15 in! October, and 11 since then. The New York Theatre Co. open their week's engagement in this city at! the Opera House to-night, on which occasion they will present the pretty melo-drama of "Jack's.Sweet heart." JThe conpany played in Ral eigh all of last week and to good bouses. The papers there spoke highly of the entertainment. They have put the prices of admission down to low figures, in the reach of all, and they should have good houses. The Visitor says of ,tueir appearance in Raleigh on Thursday nicht: 4The Mountain Pink' was presented by the New York Theatre Company last night in a most credit able manner, eliciting; the highest praise from all present. EL Church, the new and beautiful structure of the old Front Street congregation, was formally ! dedicated yesterday forenoon to the worship of Almighty God. As might well be supposed there was $ very large congregation there variously estimated a between 1,200 and 1,100 souls. Bishop John C. Keener was prjesent and preached the dedicatory sermon and there were also on the pulpit stand Rev. W. S. Creasjv D. D.j Pastor of Grace Church; Rev. R. C.j Beamanj Pastor of Fifth Street Church; Rev. H. B. Anderson, -Pas-j tdr of Bladen Street Church, and Rev. J; C. Thomas, W.N. C. Confe.l j - Bishop Keener preached a beautiful arid eloquent sermon, taken trom the 27th chapter of Genesis and de scribing Jacob's dream. The music wys rendered by a large choir with; Mr. H. M. Bowden as leader, and some thirty oid vocalists, the ac cbmpaniments being two cornets, a piano 'and the 'organ. The ofQcers of the chu fch were seated, .just in' firont of the. pulpit, j At the close of the sermon the Bishop read the dedicatory services and Mr. W. M. Poiss'on, for the bfficial board, responded, reading the prescribed parts of tliej Discipline and formaliy tendering the church.
