Under theye circumstances some of the bt-i-t people -hi the city, lawyers, doctors, merchant and mechanics went in the onen davliirht and tiro- ceeiled to take the law into their owu hands. Winder, general manager, and.Loais McLane, a director ot the Seaboard - & Roanoke, went South in the early t. 1 A. 1- XI suance of the policy i determined upon when the Sparks-Robinson deal was madej "When the option was taken on the Georgia Southern road from Macon to Palatka by the Seaboard & Roanoke the agreements bearing on this subject were drawn in this city, and it was fully 'set forth that the contract should be binding only in the event of the affairs of the road and the construction company being found satisfactory after such examination as the Seaboard peDple might make. In the event of the lease being accepted after such ex amination the Seaboard road was to build a line from Macon to Elberton to connect the Georgia Southern with its system. The investigation has not been satisfactory, as the fol- Inwini? disnatcn received bv Mr. Hoffman from one of theRobinson party Saturday will show: "Contract off. Things not as rep resented." ' j "In explanation, theGeorgiaSouth ern men say that while ; the Robin son party was at Macon an expert examined the books of the treasurer of the construction company, and the booKs of the Georgia Southern officers. It is reported that one ex cuse advanced by Robinson why he didn't take the road was, that in the examination of the Georgia South- for last January were found to be about $G4,0Qp, whereas the earnings for that montn uaa oeeu reporteu to him by President Sparks, while in Baltimore, to be about $74,000. President Sparks made this report based on a telegram he had received from Manager Knapp, who gave the figures, having been requested by Sparks to wire diim the earnings. Robinson, so. it is said, claims that the agreement to lease.was based on tho ftT4 000 of gamine for the month of Januarv. The agreement wasreal- ly based on the $80,000 of earnings per year. Granting tnat tne earn- ngs for January were only $64,000, then this average for twelve months would make $7C8,000, only $32,000 ess than $800,000. But the business of the road increases monthly, and s readly earning $800,000. The rea son of this difference bet ween $64,- 000 and $74,000 was due to tlje fact hat Robinson deducted certain charges from the earnings, which should not have ben done. Car mileage was estimated differently.' This hitch in the trade has given rise to the rumor that the Richmond and West Point Terminal is making a move on the railroad chess board whereby it wiil scoop in the Sea board Air Line system. No sensi ble man anywhere believes any such rumor. So many have been cured of rheu matism by Hood's Sarsaparilla that! we urge all who suffer from the dis ease to try this medicine. Spring Fever.
