Commercial of 23rd, lias the following : Last -evening about six o'clock Christian F. -Kin eke, i a barber liv ing 011 Third, near Mill street, de liberately committed suicide by shooting himself through jtlie heart. A quarrel w,ith his wife isj common ly supposed to have been the. cause of the act, and the deed followed so close on the termination of an ex- cited dispnte between them that it is reasonable to believe! that such was the case. In the afternoon Mrs. Kiuc-kc approached him cm the sub ject of buying a sewing ; machine, a thing to which he was much av erse, and when she pressed him to make the uurchase against his will he became vei;y angry. It appears that she taunted him with being avaricious and niiserlv, and that he upbraided her for wantonness and prodigality. Harsh wOrds were us ed, and disreputable names were applied by each to the other, and a loiii;,- w-ordv warfare was the con- sequence. lie was of a ipassionate nature, and so is she. It has not been lon siuce they had a similar quarrel, in the course of which he . 1 a t. . suui miiu uimut;u iici vgi v sevtJi e;-r lv. Feeling that, somethino: of the kind would again occur the wife called iii otiicer Stanler and request ed him to pacify her' hijisband as well as he cfculd. Mr. Stanler took Klincke by the arm in a friendly manner, walked with him down to the bridge, crossing the bed of the! old canal, and endeavored to talk him into reason. This was about a quarter past live. Forisometime the barber spoke veryj savagely about the treatment whfyh lie had experienced at hands ot his wife, and violently declared that she should not have anything that be longedjto him. lie threatened to destroy a policy of insiirance for $100, which he had oil his "life, and continued to ruil Oil for ten minutes. Finally he became cal mer went back to his shop, lit a cigar, and sat down, apparently re covered from his fit of jpassion. But when the officer lnijd left, he told his wife that he meant 'to kill himself at exactly six o'clock, and compelled her to leave the room.: When she had one," he got a pistol ahideousj old-fashioned, double-barrelled piece of ordnance,; loaded to the -muzzle; with buckshot, and cool ly smoking his segaiy sat down to wait until the clock indicated six. It was a few miuntes after that time when the wife and the children, who hiVd been driven froih the shop, heard the report of the pistol, and ruijuing into the room, found him lying on the floor dead! He had placed the weapon directly over the heart, and had discharged it with the left liand, so. that the shot had literally torn his heart tdj atoms nnd caused instantaneous death. ' IIj was taken up-and carried into an adjoining room, and a! physician who wTas immediately summoned, trieoVto detecvitality, but of course without success, for he had never breathed after the discharge of the pistol. 'Kin eke was about forty-six -ears of age and leaves, besides hi wife, four small children, the young est not. quite half a month old. To Make a Candle Burn all Nig ht. Bishops Johns, Lee, of Delaware, and Bedell, of Ohio, participated in the laying on of hands and the consecration sermon. The services were very iuipres ive and solemn throughout. Very Good.
