The County Commissioners do assess
the following taxes, to be paid for Count
purposes lor the year ending April 1st
1870.
Every manufacturer ol tobacco shall
pay 2 J percent. on his purchases ut. leaf
tobacco. . -
Every person who for himself, or as agent
for another, sells riding vehicles shall pay
2 per cent, on sales.
Every auctioneer m , all goods, wares,
and merchandise, sold by himself or Agent,
whither or not the growth or manufacture
of this State shall pay 1 percent, on gross
amount of sales, subject to the exemptions
and regulations set forth in the tenth
chap. Hevised Code, entitled 4-Auctihs
and Auctioneers." , . ..
Every itinerant who deals in or puts up
lightning rods shall pay f 1(X'V
Every Company of gipsies or strolling
companies of persons earning , a: support
by pretending to tell fortunes, horse trad
ing, tinkering, or begging shall pay $100.
Every chiet officer of Banks, including
private banks, shall p:iy 5 per cent, on
amount of dividends or profits.
Every Insurance Company, incorporated
by this State, shall pay 10 per cent on
dividends or, profits,. payable in tApril and

Every Insurance Company,' not incor
porated by this State,' shall pay on amotyit

Every Express Company hall 'pay on

Stoee Kobbed. Monday night
the dry goods store of Mr. John Dawson
was entered by robbers, and a small
amount of money, together with a few mi
nor articles, was stolen. The robbers suc
ceeded in breaking open one of the rear
windows, entered the store, ransacked the
money and desk drawers, attempted to
unlock the large iron safe, and departed
without having attracted the attention of
tiie police. They left a crow bar and
sledge hammer lying near the window,
and the noise made in effecting an en
trance must have been very great.r

Good Ordinance. In this morn
ing's issue will be seen an ordinance in
tended to preserve the healthfulness of the
city, and to save the citizens unnecessary
expense.
We emphatically believe, all things con
sidered, that the ordinance is not only just,
but beneficial to the citizens in many re
spects, and especially tending to preserve
he salubrity of the city.

Sent to Jail. Thomas Jeuniugs,
the colored man who was sent to the

forage and provisions, yesterday qualified
before the Clerk of the Superior Court.
Time Extended. Six months was
the time formerly allowed for the transfer
of cases from the old Superior Court doc
ket to the new, and the time has now been
extended to one year.
Unintentional Omission. ' We
unintentionally omitted in our yesterday's
issue to notice the lecture before Mt. Oli
vet Council by the Rev. Samuel Pierce,
whose remarks were applauded as most
appropriate by all who were so fortunate
as to be present.
Turtles. Several sea turtles
were yesterday offered for sale by Mr.
Sneeden, and the prices obtained were
reasonable. The turtles were caught at
Wrightsville Sound, and were on exhibi
tion at the Market House during the ear
lier portion of yesterday.
