the purpose of nominating a candidate for the

day at the City Rail In Wilmington, and nom

position. , , ..
, In placing before yoo, fellow citizens, the
above named candidate. It becomes our doty
to briefly explain to you the condition of af
fairs, and the causes which brought forth this
sad and lamentable division in our once united
and Invincible party : -' f -
1st Our attention was directed to a clique,
composed of a few individuals whom we, by
our suffrage, had placed in office. We sow
that these were determined to control the af
fairs of our people, regardless of their welfare
or future consequences, and having but one
object in view: that, of elevating themselves
to power and wealth at the expense of. our la
bor, and the future degradation of Our child
ren and children's children.
2d. This clique, headed by these ambitious
individuals, camo into the Convention, and
whea they found they could neither buy,
bribe nor intimidate your delegates, after ; re
sorting to all sorts of wire-pulling, and find
ing a majority of the delegates, who are Re
publicans, representing , the interest of the
County at large, and who could not be bought
in to favor the Interest of the clique, they left
the Convention disorderly, claiming to have'
adjourned, when no proper vote on the ques
tion had been taken. The majority, being op-
tiosed to an adjournment, went on with the
usiness for which the Convention had been
called, with the above stated result.
