The "'Contempt" Case.-It seems that the " contempt n case, in which our city authorities figured to such an ex tent, has not yet been decided, as Mayor Neff, through his counsel, has taken an appeal to the Supremo Court In the meantime he it required to give a bond of 1500 to secure' the amount of his . fine in thi3pecial. "If you wish to keep a town from thriving," says an exchange, " don't put up any more buildings than you can conveniently occupy yourself If you bhould accidentally have am empty dwel ling, and any: one wants to rent it, ask him about three tioies the actual value of it. Demand a Shylock price for every spot ot ground God. ha given you stewardship over. Turn a cold shoulder to eve ry me chanic or business man seeking a home among you. Look at every new comer with a scowl. 44 Run down the work of every new workman. Go abroad for wares, rather than trade with those who seek to do lu sin 83 in your midst. Wrap yourselves op within yourselves, and cover yourselves up with a coat of impervious selfishness. There is no more effectual way to retard the growth of a town than actions like these enumerated, and there are people in every town who are pursuing the above course every day of their livc, an'! to whom the above remarks are respectfully offered for their careful attention." The Penalty of Wrong Doing. James Quinn, who got into a scrape on Wednesday, and tried to fight his way out ol it, was taken before the City Court, yesterday, and fined $100 and costs. Not fog in a condition to 44 foot the bill," he was returned to his quarters in the Guard House, and was straightway initiated in the mysteries of the 44 chain gang." Call Cards. For the benefit of the mercantile community Mr. Janney, A"ent of the Southern Express Company in this city, has issued Call Cards, which are designed to be hung out in front of the stores of those who may have goods to ship by Express and tho drivers of the Express, wagons, in their daily rounds, will see them and call for their articles without, farther trouble. It was our pleasure to witness last; evening the best minstrel performance which Wil mington has seen since the war. We are convinced that no itinerant company in the United States is capable of giving so varied and attractive an exhibition. The imitations given by Mr. Talbott and - the excellent "Dissolving Views" at the close of the minstrel exhibition arc the great features of the performance. Altogether the corps presents a very strong coenbina tion, and wc cannot mention individual members, without doing injustice to oihor equally meritorious artists. We would especily commend the per formance as entirely free from vulgar al lusions or indecencies of any kind. A lady can attend with entire impunity, which is saying a great deal for a minstrel show. The audience last night was a large one, and numbered many of the elite of the city. . We are requested to state, for the bene fit of those who may not wish to witness the entire performance, but desire to see Professor Schaffner's Panithe Opticonica which is certainly magnificent, and more than worth the price of admission that this part of the exhibition will take place to-night at 9 o'clock. lirapes were plentiful in our market yesterday, The Special Court has ad- journed.
