There has already been about $2,000 worth of stock taken, and with $1,000 more subscribed, and paid in, the Com pany will be ready for business. This amount, however, will doubtless soon be extended, as, once started, there is every reason to believe that the demands ot the business will ere long require a larger cap ital, say $4,000 or $5,000. And this sum will be easily secured, because our people will then see the feasibility of the thing and will be anxious for an interest in it. Pcbuo Meeting. A meeting ol wharf owners and others interested, in connection with the Commissioners of Navigation and Pilotage, was held at the Commercial Exchange yesterday to take into consideration the matter ot filling in the new line of wharves being built by the Wilmington, Charlotte and Ruther ford Railroad at the depot of said road.' It appears that jnuch . complaint has been made by property holders and others, that the sand which is used to fill in and con struct the wharves alluded to is constant ly washing into the liver, by the action of the tides, and thereby tending in a meas ure to obstruct navigation. It was de termined by the meeting that the Com missioners of Navigation and Pilotage should address a communication' to . the contractors, requesting them to suspend operations until such time as arrangements can be made to prevent the sand irom washing into the river. Rev. Mr. Hobotham. During the session of the Confercnce.on Thursday, as "we learn from the Newbern Journal of Commerce, t he name of Rev. J. II. Rob.it ham being called, Presiding, Elder L. S. Eurkhead stated the facts connected with his case.- At the last Conference he was appointed to the Fifth Street Methodist Church, at Wilmington, where he remain ed about two months, after which period he disappeared and bad not been heard from by the Elder since. Mr. Burkhead certified to his moral character and great usefulness as a minuter. Dr. Deems then arose and stated that Rev. Mr. Robotham applied to Bishop Wightman, at Balti more, for permission to leave his charge for the purpose of going after his wile, and that the request was granted. This wus the last definitely known in regard to his disappearance. One of the delegates stated that he had seen, in the New York Herald, an account of the death of a Rev. 3Ir. Robotham,' a IWesleyan Minister, at Panama, and supposed the absentee to be the man. In the absence of conclusive evidence ot his death, the case was post poned for consideration at a future Con ference, by which, time it whs hoped the missing Minister would be heard from.
