Cottoh. This staple always
commands a good price here, but there is
sometimes quite a difference in the figures
of different grades. For instance, yester
day, while the ruling price was 23 cents,
ond forty-eight bales were sold at Ihose
figures, one bale, of a superior quality,
bsought 24 cents; and one of our business
men informs us that'for two bales of extra
long staple, on the' market yesterday, 25
cents per pound was offered and refused.

' The Co-operative Store. We
are glad to learn that the prospects of an
early commencement of the projected Co
operative Store in this city are very en
couraging. , Those who have the matter
in hand are determined to know no such
word as fail, and intend to keep on push
ing the thing until the . necessary amount
of stock is taken and the enter
prise fixed ""upon a permanent "basis.
There has already been about $2,000
worth of stock taken, and with $1,000
more subscribed, and paid in, the Com
pany will be ready for business. This
amount, however, will doubtless soon be
extended, as, once started, there is every
reason to believe that the demands ot the
business will ere long require a larger cap
ital, say $4,000 or $5,000. And this sum
will be easily secured, because our people
will then see the feasibility of the thing
and will be anxious for an interest in it.
Pcbuo Meeting. A meeting ol
wharf owners and others interested, in
connection with the Commissioners of
Navigation and Pilotage, was held at the
Commercial Exchange yesterday to take
into consideration the matter ot filling in
the new line of wharves being built by
the Wilmington, Charlotte and Ruther
ford Railroad at the depot of said road.'
It appears that jnuch . complaint has been
made by property holders and others, that
the sand which is used to fill in and con
struct the wharves alluded to is constant
ly washing into the liver, by the action of
the tides, and thereby tending in a meas
ure to obstruct navigation. It was de
termined by the meeting that the Com
missioners of Navigation and Pilotage
should address a communication' to . the
contractors, requesting them to suspend
operations until such time as arrangements
can be made to prevent the sand irom
washing into the river.
Rev. Mr. Hobotham. During
the session of the Confercnce.on Thursday,
as "we learn from the Newbern Journal of
Commerce, t he name of Rev. J. II. Rob.it
ham being called, Presiding, Elder L. S.
Eurkhead stated the facts connected with
his case.- At the last Conference he was
appointed to the Fifth Street Methodist
Church, at Wilmington, where he remain
ed about two months, after which period
he disappeared and bad not been heard
from by the Elder since. Mr. Burkhead
certified to his moral character and great
usefulness as a minuter. Dr. Deems then
arose and stated that Rev. Mr. Robotham
applied to Bishop Wightman, at Balti
more, for permission to leave his charge
for the purpose of going after his wile,
and that the request was granted. This
wus the last definitely known in regard to
his disappearance. One of the delegates
stated that he had seen, in the New York
Herald, an account of the death of a Rev.
3Ir. Robotham,' a IWesleyan Minister, at
Panama, and supposed the absentee to be
the man. In the absence of conclusive
evidence ot his death, the case was post
poned for consideration at a future Con
ference, by which, time it whs hoped the
missing Minister would be heard from.

The wonderful sagacity of a dog,
says the Greensboro' Patriot, was never
more forcibly illustrated than on the oc
casion of the burning of Foulks' mills a
few weeks sino. The miller lived near
the mill, and was awakened by a small
dog barking and pulling, very excitedly,
at the bed clothes. Alarmed By the
strange conduct on the part of the dog,
he got up and found the mill on fire; but
it was too late to save the house.

THE GREAT SOUTHERN REMEDY.
THE ONLY SURE REHEDT

THE wonderful success oiNoladine in cur

to the Southern States emboldens the propri
etors to invite the attention of the citizens of
Wilmington to its curative power In tho treat
ment of all malarial diseases.disorders of the
blood, and complaints requiring a promp
and powerful alterative. Hundreds of cases
duly certified by responsible Individuals at

which have successtul'y resisted all the usual
remedies. In all blood dt-ea-es, whether re
cently contracted or of long standing, in
mercurial compl tints and malarial disorders,
Nolandine has been proem i ently success

of No aniline designed for obstinate canes of
Ague and Fever. In the treatment of this
latter complaint, our great vegetable prepar

and fevers are prevalent, where Nolandine
has been used, to be absolutely without a ri

ation and therefore, unattended by the evil
consequences whi b so frequently follow the
nse of mercury. We so lcitonlers. Address
