XiurruH - dtar :-Tho election . is over and victory has -perched upon our ban ners , 7tn. ; breathless , expectancy we awaited the first intelligence of -result; ihe nrst day jthe reports were meagre but cneer, jng, and the feejing of anxiety chang ed to one of nopefnlness, 'notv however, unmixea with rfear. The second day -placed; it beyond doubt that we had triumphed, and for the'first time in months that have seemediike yearswe breathed freely TWs was enough, it was the full realization of what wo had hoped and prayed and labored for, feeling at the same time tiat - we; were contending againsf overwhelming odds and hoping against hope. But cheering as is theesult of the election, all cause for doubt' ahd anxiety is not yet removed. There are still; other occasions of disquiet and serious appre hensionj one cloud has been swept awa"y, but there are others which still hang dark and threatening overus, thel muttering of the thunder ot vengeance is heard, and even from the receding cloud comes back an answering roar. Such being the case, it becomes our people,' in the midst ot the general joy, and while humbly grateiul to an overruling providence which has achieved for us a triumph . and a deliver ance for beyond" that we dared to ask or hope, to heed well the temperate counsels addressed to them by the leading Conser vative and Democratic Journals North and South,i and by the Cotservative Executive Committee of the State. The very magni tude of the victory arul the unprecedented extent ot the revolution within (not two years, but) a tew months, should awe us into humility and reverence, as satisfying us that such as it is, it could not have been accomplished by humnn agency alone, though our men laborefl as never men la bored before. ' , .' Old Randolph has done gloriously, electing the entire Conservative ticket by majorities ranging from' five to two hun dred and twenty-seven; TVimlinson for II. of R. leading the ticket. Every dishonor able and contemptible expedient that could be devised was resorted to by the Had 3 but without avail our men were wide awake and prepared for them at every point. Dr. Worth, taking the Radi cal estimate for .Montgomery, is supposed to be elected by a very small majority. Major Robbins, "contrary to the general impression wben-i last wrote, is elected by a handsome majority. ' Davie, has elected the entire Conservative county ticket, except the Sheriff, owing to some divisions among the Conservatives they have elect ed a Radical Sheriff. Capt. Frank Rob- bins (brother of the Mnj.) is e'eGted to jhc- senate from Davidson. Crops in this sec tion (especially corn) were never finer; and we are having as good seasons as could be desired. Tobacco, bdth North and South of here (there is none planted in this immediate section, is said to be very promising. More anon. j i Truly lours, j lUSDOLrii. I :"ilie AdvaoceinthcIriee;6f Ic. It was mentioned on Saturday thnt the ice companies of New York had advanced the price of ice from fifteen to twenty dol lars a ton at wholesale. At j retail the price has been raisflU from one and a half cents a pound to two cents. But the most serious matter is the restriction as to the quantity to be sold in small lots, and one A . !H 1 1 Jl X - mat wilt prove an especial iinrusuip io the poor. Orders have been twenty-five cents1 worth to families, wfiich is almost ja virtual shutting off of the poorer classes. The New York Post, referring to these advanced rates; remarks : J " The complaints and denunciations of the monopolists by consumers is general and fully deserved. Up to April 1st ice was sola at twenty-five cents a hundred. It was then advanced to forty cents, then on the 1st of May. to fifty cents a hundred, and. on the 1st or June to seventy live cents." "July 1st the price was raised to $1 25, and a fortnight later another twenty-five cents was; added, and on Friday anothef halt dollar was piled on. i At this rate it is difficult to say where they iml stop, and as the people are at their mercy. cue monopolists nave ausoiuie sway over New York, .What makes the matter still more annoying is tbe knowledge of the fact that not only was there a 4arge crop of ice lasts, winter, but there is. now a liber al aupply on hand so: large, itia said; XxpX many fcompaniewiU have ice left over for next year.".
