Tlie School Tax.' Hereafter the amount of money required for school purposes and the payment of teachers, in he several counties of the State, must be levied by the County Commissioners and paid to the Sheriffs for this special purpose. This is an important matter, as the public wish can be gratified to any extent H may desire by In dicating the amount of taxation it is willing to bear. In our county we need 35 to 40 schools. The cost mnat reach $15,000. It would be well to have some expressions of opinion on this sub ject - ' ' ' The New Map r.the Clly. A large and neatly executed map ol the city, made in pursuance of the act of the Legisla ture of the State ratified the 14th day o March, 1870, extending the corporate limits of the city, has recently been prepared by Messrs. James & Brown, City Surveyors, one copy of which la retained in the City Hall, one furn ished the Superior Court Clerk's office -and one sent io the office of the Secretary of State at Raleigh. According to this map the c ty Is now comprised of 537 blocks, is bounded on the South by Greenfield street, on the East by Seventeenth street and on the North by Hilton street and Smith's Creek. , The new limits take in nearly the whole of Oakdale Cemetery and a portion of Pine Forrest Cemetery, though of course the streets terminate on each bide of these sacred enclosures. The lines of the different railroads centering in this city are also plainly marked on the map. This ia now tho legal map of the city and persons wishing to obtain any In'ormatlon. relative to the status of the city In a geographical 'sense have but to call at the Mayor's.office or at the Superior Court Clerk's office and examine one of them. ! pear In Charleston aoon. . On April 1st, 1871, the last $10,000 bonds issued In 1851 by the city in payment of Its subscription to the Wilmington and Man chester Railroad became due and are now pre sented for payment. They will be duly met. It Is said that while directly the investment has not paid,, indirectly it has paid. . The sermons of Rev. Dr. Closs, Presiding Elder of the Wilmington district, delivered on Sabbath last at the Front street Methodist Church, 'are highly spoken of. After the morning service two persons connected them selves with the Church and the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered. A friend suggests that if an arrangement 6f the sort could be made by which our citi zens could list their State and County taxes at the same time they do their city taxes, they would be relieved of not only the necessity of making two trips to the City Hall for the purr pose, but would also save time and trouble. Heretofore, he says, they were always listed at the same time. . - CAPE FJEAB LODGE, NO. 2, I. O. O. F. Celebration Fifty-First Anniversary ' oj the Order. Tho Warren ton Gazette, which baa been under the management and con trol of Col. Spruill, changed bands a few Gentlemen' Fashion. 'This Spring everything Is to be toned down. The plaids of last' year have dwindled Into neat little checks ; stripes narrower and more subdued; drab and mouse are mode colors, days since, Mr. Spruill leasing the entire lauiaiuwua ioijsi uk tuu vuuvuin, uu i esiauiisumeui, to juessrs. xiarper cc.vuti, comfortable at the knees. In full dress there is, as there can be, .nothing new. The new walking coats ought to be quite as suitable in the drawing-room as in the street They are of dark brown, green or black diagonal cloth. Coat and vest of this sort, with quiet trowsers, make a very becoming suit. Full-dress vest expose the greater part of the shirt frpnt. Shirt bosoms are made' with four or five plaits on a side, Instead of one or two wide ones so long in vogue. Crevlot linen is extensively used for everyday wear. The new Spring coat is the only thing that approaches the loud." It is made of light Melton or English tweed, and is not intended to button. The fronts are turned back a full quarter of a yard,' and half this width faced with silk a shade lighter or darker than the material, as the taste of the wearer may dictate. Tho sleeves fit closely at the hand. White linen suits are expected to be very much worn ; the sacks will be made quite short, almost like a sailor's jacket. A favorite style with some has been to bind these white suits with fine black braid. . This gives a dainty fiuish to the toilet. NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. M. CRONLT, Auctioneer. By CBOKLT 4 MORRIS.
