. Policeman ;Wm. Brooks, under whose
charge JImTroy, , the lunatic, was taken t.o
Whitevllle on Tuesday, reports that he ,waa
very violent during the, trip and succeeded, in
his attempts to do mischief, In driving all'tbe
passengers from the coach he was in except
the officer. His ; arms were confined with
handcuffs, but still he managed to nee them
with such effect that the policeman had to
exert all his strength to prevent his injuring
him personally, and in his efforts to, escape
from the coach he succeeded in breaking some
of the wiudows. Arriving at the depot near
Whitevllle he was taken out, when his mad
ness assumed a more "violent and-dangerous
character, and, the officer appealed in vain for
assistance in taking him to the village, which
he reached in an almost exhausted condition.
The madman was thea taken- to-Mr. Baldwin,
Chairman of - the'1 Board of County Commis
sioners, . who, ,ater consultation, with the
Sheriff, ordered iiim to be taken to jail. When
the order was given the lunatic made 4 furious
assault upon those two officers and succeeded
in disarranging their wearing appareK Final
ly, however, he was lodged In jail and heavily
ironed, where he will remain until some more
appropriate .disposition , shall be made of him.
