Murphy, of Sampson.- county, a gentleman well known throughout the State for his talents,. his enterprise and his indomi table energy, is now iu our city in tha Interest of the Carolina Pump Company, of which he is a member. This pump is a Southern inven tion, of home manufacture and is what is known as the "Submerged Glass Cylinder Double-acting Force Pomp,'" having been pattented August, 1S69, by A. Balding, It is admirably adapted for wells and other pur poses and will force water any depth or helghth. By attaching hose It becomes a local fire engine of great power, throwing SO to 150 gallons per minute. This Invention combines simplicity and durability, in which the water will never freeze or become f stale, as the cylinder and valves are submerged and no water remains In the pipe when the pump is not in operation. "There is 1 no friction; the cylinder being glass, the packlngl'cannot wear or cut; the valves being round, made of flint glass, working on gum seats, can neither wear or. jam. ; . These pumps are adapted to a great many purposes, and are highly recommended by numbers of gentlemen in this State who have tested them to their satisfaction. Dr. Murphy had one of them on exhibition at the corner of Front and Princess streets yester day, and quite a crowd was drawn 'thither to witness the operation of this really nseful in vention. .1 .. .... f Boarders. , If yon want Boarders, advertise in our new department, under head ; of Wants," at half' our regular rates, : for advertisements not ex ceeding five lines. : t - - n tf Bea-istrars, and Jadfea ml JEleetlon. 1 At a meetlng'of the Board of County 'Com missloners. held last evening;' the "following were appointed Regis trara and Pollholders for the ensuing election, to be held on the 1st Thursday in August next: ' . n Wamlngtok.Tlrt Ward.- S.
