The Fire Department.
We learn that the Fire Department of. this
city will be re orgaalzed on Friday, the 80th
Inst, and that thereafter It will consist of
three steam fire engines and one hand engine,
the "Brooklyn,", which will be stationed North
of the Weldon Railroad. The old hand-engine
companies were to meet last night for the pur

A Simple Bemedy. t ,-',
To those afflicted with that terrible disease,,
the catarrh, and for their benefit, we publish
the following simple remedy, which It js said,:
has been found very efficacious: Mix one part
of pulverized saltpetre to two of sugar, and
tnuff up the nostrils , ten "or twelves' times a
day. Ten cents worth will last for a couple of

A letter to an exchange says-that wetting
the hair thoroughly with sage tea, made strong
and applied cold, for a few days in succession,

lyn Life Insurance Company is in the city on

"Brooklyn" is a first-class institution, as most

We have the champion cabbage and. to
mato, the first being a cluster of thirteen dis
tinct and well formed 6olid heads and the lat
ter a cluster of seven tomatoes combined into
one. These curiosities In the vegetable line
were grown by Mr. -Rogers, near this city.
Superior Court in Anson The Red-
fearn Murders.
The extra term of the Superior for Anson
eounty, for the trial o! the Redfearn znur
derers, Judge Buxton presiding, commenced
at Wadesboro' on Monday last, and on Tues
day true bills were found by the Grand Jury
against all the parties under arrest except
Louis Henry; who was subsequently discharg
ed from custody. Yesterday morning when
the train passed the work of empanneling the
jury was about commencing. The trial Is ex
pected to consume the entire week. Messrs.
8teele & Walker appear for the defence and
Messrs. McKoy, Ashe, Hargrove, Bennett and
McMillan for the prosecution.

The luckiest fishing party that we have
heard of this season in this or any other local
ity went down to the Blackfish Grounds yes
terday, on the steamer Alpha. Fifteen gentle
men, fully equipped with hooks and lines
suitable for the purpose, comprised the party.
They . remained on the grounds, .about five
hours andaught three thousand fine blackfish,
considered by the large majority of our peo
ple the most delicious specimens of the finy
trie caught In the waters of North Carolina.
Two of the fortunate followers of Isack Wal
ton (who would have gone Into ecstacies over
such luck as that experienced by the party al
luded to) succeeded alone in hooking three
hundred and eighty of thelot. To one of the
latter, who had more than he knew what to
do with, we are Indebted for a couple of fine
bunches.
