are purchasiug at present high figures have
not been ignorant of the fact that there was a
considerable stock in the interior.
Pigeon Mnootingr.
One of the attractions of our approaching

uey double-barrelled breech-loading shot gun,
costing 125. We intend to go into this little
arrangement ourself. We are very expert on
pigeon shooting, and will wager seventy-five
or thirty cents that we can kill a pigeon,
if securely tied, at twenty, paces, nine times
oat of nine hundred and ninety-nine. This, It
will be understood, Is a much more difficult
feat than bringing down a bird flying, as in
the latter case it is almost certain, in its devi
ous flight, to fly against some of the shot from
the fowling piece. '

stand Mr. Cronly says there are rails enough
on the way to lay two and a half miles of the
Road and that there will be shipped, weekly,
enough to lay one mile thereafter, and that the
Road will reach here by February, and will be
pushed through. ' So mote it be. .

raised a crop of broom corn this season : -
" It Is now known-tojie a positive fact that

day and Tuesday continues, and prices have
"ill further advanced. In fact, it is almost
'inpossible to buy even common grades nnder
twelve to fifteen cents per pound. Telegrams

he growers in the West ordering , their brush
held for fabulous prices. The crop of 1871 Is
well known to be a partial failnre It being
estimated by the most liberal and test posted

mense stock of old corn that wa8rheld in 'Chi
cago prevented prices from materially advan
cing, although it was generally conceded that
they would have been high anyhow later in the
season, bdt now, since . the destruction of
about one fourth the entire stock in the United
states, it Is fair to presume we shall have" the
tallest prices for bioom corn known since, the
war.

Mr. Oakley McNeill, residing near Scnffletown,
in this county, was ont before day coon hunt
ing. About daylight his dog treed and Mr.
McNeil was proceeding t the spot for the
pnrposje of securing the game, when he heard

same direction.: Supposing this person to be
one of! the' outlaws Mr.! McNeill became alarm

" Hiiving occasion, soon after breakfast, to
go to Moss Neck dpot, Mr. McNeill was sit
ting op the platform at the depot conversing
with one or two gentlemen who were present,
when jBuddenly the notorious: outlaw Henry

his hand a dead coon, .which be presented to
Mr. McNeill, saying that, as it was treed by
his ddg, the game rightfully belonged to him.
"The outlaw then asket Mr. McNeill to
lend the dog to him for a short time, as he
wished himself to engage In the sport of coon
hunting. 1 Mr. McNeill declined to lend the
dog, aU he expected to use him himself for the
same purpose, but informed the outlaw that
he had another dog at home equally good for
coons which he thought would follow him,
