It is a copy of the Bos ton Gazette, issued March 12, 1770, a year or two before the writer of "this paragraph was born., v It contains some very interesting read ing matter, especially the account of the hor rible massacre of March 5, 1770, In which several citizens were butchered hy the British soldiery. 1 -. I .Out beloved friend AtMah-Ne-La-Herwon the race (and eight doll are) in 2:1&. - . We,;' take this" encouraging item from the Salem Press : For the past two weeks, Fries' factory has been running oight and day ii double set of hands be ing employed. It is probable this will be the case all winter; The reason of this' is the heavy demand ' for Fries' fabrics, especially from the North. Does it not sound curiously to say that the. South is supplying the North with factory goods ? ' We copy the following from the Raleigh Bra : The managers of the Institution for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind gave a public exhibition on Thursday night, at the request of . many, visitors whom the fair attracted to the city. l The audience was quite large; and all seemed to be well pleased with the performances ot the pupils on the occasion. At the close of the exercises,-on motion of Rev. Bennett T. Blake, a resolution of thanks was unanimously voted by the audience to the managers for their courtesy. A short time since, says the Winston Sentinel of the 19th inst., two ne groes, partially disguised, went to the house of a respectable white woman and asked lo stay all night, and when they were ; refused they. maltreated the lady. One of them was caught and lodged in jail, but the other is still at large. About two weeks ago as Mrs. , a respectable white lady, 62 years old, was returning borne from Thomasvilie on foot, she was met by a negro, who brutally outraged her. To accomplish his purpose he choked and otherwise abused her, and her condi tion is now very critical. The miscreant was captured and lodged in jail the jail at Lexington being deemed insecure. We are no advocate , of mob law, but these wretches deserve to be hung too quick to give the Governor an opportunity to par don them. r The following from the Wei- don News is all we can gather concerning the meeting ot the uentrai uonservauve Committee last-Wednesday evening. Strangely enough, the Raleigh papers have had nothing to say about it : "The meet ing f the Democratic Conservative Exe cutive Committee, ' aided by delegates lrom the different counties throughout the State, which was held in the Senate Chamber on Wednesday night to" consult, was exceedingly well attended, forming the most respectable and able body that we!have seen gathered together since our residence in the State. The, meeting lasted through several hours, and was , 01 a very interesting character, and. steps taken looking to a more thorough organi zation of the party throughout the State. An adjourned meeting was to have been held on Thursday night." SPECIAL NOTICES. r THE MEANS OF ESCAPE. The i all has many perils for the weak and feeble, audits sudden atmospheric changes are trying: to the constitutions of even the robust. The chining temperature of the Diguts, as compared with the almost summer warmth of the days, necessarily exercises an un healthy fnlluence on. all who are exposed to it. , Hence dysentery, diarrtcea, intermit tent feveri, "bilious attacks, and derange ments of all the secretions, are common at this season. 7 The, true way to escape them is is to meet the causes with a protective and invigorating naedieinet .Hoatetter's Stomach Sitters are designed for this exigency, This powerful vegetable specific relieves the sys tem of all acrid humors, purifies the fluids, tones the Secretive organs, promotes healthy evaporation through the pores,' Increases the activity of the digestive functions, cheers the spirits, and regulates the bowels. To do this is to make the whole, body vigorous, and render it proof against the vicissitudes of temperature, and against malaria. A course of the great tonic and alterative Is therefore in all cases advisable as jk preventive at this reason 1 If, on the other hand,' the mischief is I already dbne, and intermittent or remittent fever is actually present, or the liver, bowels or stomach disordered, there is no medicine so certain to effect a quick and thorough cure 4 as this harmless and agreeable preparation. oct 22-eodlw-Sun Wen Fri. v;."'.
