The Republican Convention.
The Republican County Convention for the
appointment of delegates to the 8tateand Dis
trlct Conventions met in this city yesterday,
Denard Ramley, Esq., presided, sod the Con
ventlon oil the whole was 'much more orderly
than many anticipated. 'There was the usual
amount of Buncombe, however, each dele
gate seeming to feci himself in duty bound to J
contribnie his quota to the tide of eloquence
which flooded the City Court room during the
entire afternoon. : The-buslness for the trans
action of which the Convention met was
finally disposed of, the following delegates
being chosen : - ' ' ,
To the State Convention. H. E. Scott, Owen
Burney, Geo. L. Mabson:'
To the DUtrkt Convention. Q. yr. Price, W
11. Moore, John Whiteman, W. H. Gerken,
W. P. Canaday, Jas. A. Lowrey. r
Resolutiofis endorsing John . Pool were
passed, bat the delegates were not required to
pledge themselves to any partienUr individual
for Congress. ' It : is generally understood,
however, that they will support Rutherford
for that position.

Telegraphic. ;
As preparations are now. in progress for se

with the different points , on the line of the

urge the importance of establishing a line be
tween Lumberton or . some other, available

every way so desirable and practicable that
such., communication t should be established,
and that without the least unnecessary delay,
that it would seem superfluous to more than
call attention tor its importance to Wilming
ton, Fayetteville and Intermediate points to
insure the speedy accomplishment f the work.
