HUMAKITT OF SOUTHERN PEOPLE. Lsb Caxp,'No. 1, ) ., Southern" Cross Bbothkbhood, Richmond, Va July, 1872. OUR ORDER IS COMPOSED OF CONFEDER ate Soldiers alone, who bad an unblemished rec ord during the wac Jta obiects are to perpetuate the memory and heroism of our fallen comrades, to aid the families of nr former brethren in arms who need assistance; and' to try and preserve the trath and parity of historr. - .- We are now specially engagedn the sacred duty of raising funds to asaiat Hollywood Memorial Associa tion in removing the remains ofjfur noble dead from Gettysbnrg and other poiais where they are neglect ed and mistreated, to Hollywood Cemetery near this city, where, through the .untiring efforts of oar ladies. an nonor&Die reeling place is pnoviaea, ana an enaa ring monument erected to their nemory ; and where, rotected and cared ior, tney can early receive the lonor bestowed on our " Memorisl Day," in deco rating their graves With flowers. There are yet at Gettysburg the remains of near .ONE THOUSAND BODIES: they are from nearly all the States; and when we say, in some instances, the heartless wretches of the vicinity where they fell and lie are ploughing their bones about as if they were.dogs, it is enough to make the blood of decent humanity oou, ana tne pocKet oi au wno are not laise to iqsj inz false to DrinciDle false toTa cause once dear- open to remove these heroes .from such indignity ana mnnmamty. -. . Some of these men are from your State; some of them may have been your dear friends or your own kin; all of them lost their lives in your defence. xou proiessea to love tnem wnue living: yoa pro-. fessed to love the cause for which they died. Shall their remains be dishonored when they lost their lives for yoa? Will yoa aid as to remove them to s saie ana sacrea spot, wnere tne warm, no Die near is and gentle care of Virginia women can watch over them? Into whatever hands this appeal falls, we beg yoa to aid as in this cause, in which oar whole soul is enlisted. Ask your friends to aid yon. Do not hesitate because yoa cannot give much; remem ber, as arops maxe an ocean, so many email contri butions will make a goodly sun. Can't yoa spare a day or so to canvass specially for this purpose? It is necessary to raise several tnoosana aoiiars to accomplish oar purpose, bat we not hesitate to un dertake it, aa we cannot think Southern people will close their hearts and pockets to so sacred an appeal. itemu au contributions to w. u. cajvhinoton, care Piedmont and Arlington Life Insurance Company, Richmond, Va.4 he being Chairman of Committee. rieaee act promptly; give as iiDerauy as yoa can. bat give somethini a i let ns brine our brothers sway irom nostue ds and Northern soil.
