The only case before the Mayor's Court yesterday was that of a colored man by the j name of Joseph Fowle, who was charged with disorderly conduct Judgment for the costs, which were afterwards remitted by Mayor Wilson and defendant discharged. In explanation of the above, Fowle states that two policemen, who he alleges were in fluenced by personal animosity against him, went to his house about 12 o'clock on Tues day night and ordered him out of his bed, saying that they had been sent to arrest him. Upon being questioned as to their having a warrant for their proceedings in the matter one of them remarked that he had the docu ment; but he failed to produce it - They xutiiK, uutuv i l authority force. Upon reaching the Guard House, however, Captain Nixon stated that he knew nothing about the matter, but recog- Hized Fowle ta appear before, the Mayor's Court yesterday morning. - He attended, according to promise, but the two police- men were not present to prefer any charge against him. If policemen are allowed to use their of- ficial. positions to gratify personal spite, they will not be of much service as guard ians of the public peace. College of Physicians and Surgeons.
