The ) Conservative is the name of a ' new weekly campaign paper just started at Rich mond, Va., for gratuitous distribution. Trial of Two Colored Boys for As sault Upon a White Lady. Andrew Lightfoot and Causey Suckey, charged with implication in the assault upon Mrs. P. Gillican, alluded to in the Star a few days ago, had a hearing before Justice J. Cassidey yesterday. There was no evidence to convict Lightfoot and he was discharged..;. Causey Suckey, on account of his youth, he being about 12 years of age, together with the fact that his father prom ised to give him a good whipping, and the further consideration that he had been lying in jail for several days, was discharged on the payment of costs. - , City Physician . and . Testimonials of. Esteem Bishop Glhhons. . to Rt. Rev. : A number of ladies and gentlemen met in the basement of St .Thomas (Catholic) church last evening for the purpose of 'pre senting some token of then-esteem to Rt Rev. James Gibbons, ;. Vicar Apostolic of North Carolina, on the occasion of his de parture for Richmond. The presents, which were a beautiful silver service,: con sisting of1 salver, pitcher and goblets, to gether with a marble clock and handsome mantel ornaments, were tendered to the Bishop, Mr. F.' WKerchner making the presentation address in behalf of the Young Catholic Friends Society and St. Thomas Church in a neat and appropriate manner, during which he referred to the important work which had been accomplished for the church during the four years of his resi dence here, and concluding by assuring the Bishop that he would carry with him the best wishes of his congregation and friends in this place and their earnest prayers for his future happiness, wherever it may hereafter please heaven to cast his lot The Bishop responded in a beautiful and touching impromptu address, which was characteristic of the man and the words of which found their way to the hearts of all present He concluded by staling that he would leave them all that has been accumu lated here in the last four, years, taking nothing but his trunk, but that he would carry with him what he esteemed more precious than all, viz., the affections of his people and an humble' consciousness of having done his duty to the best of his ability.
