In our l9vw of "Wednesday last we stated upon information from a C!irfL-official source that there would soon be a Lodge of this Order in full operation at Enfield, and that there was also a fair prospect of the erec tion at an early day of Lodges at "Wilson, Rocky Mount nd IJaJtleboro! "We now learn that within the next bU qf eight days there will be another new Lodge of this flourishing Order instituted in this city, making four altogether and constituting "Wilmington not only the pioneer but the grand .head-centre of Pythian progress in this part of the country, Newbern and Lumberton, in addition tp the , places men. tioned. above, will also soon boast of a Lodge of the Order In tlieir midst. ;--, - The new Rituals adopted at the last ses sion of the Supreme Lodge are expected in a few days and it is anticipated that their arrival will add a new impetus and stimu late an awakened interest among the mem bers of the Order in our city. The Storm. A storm yisited this locality on "Wednes day evening and raged with great fury during the entire night. On the line of the Charlotte road we learn"' that it was "even more severe than it was here. It is to be hoped that the large amonnt of rain that fell will have some effect in raising the river between hero and. Faycttevffle. .. ;',We expect to hear of more or less dam age to shipping on the coast. The weather was very threatening during the greater part of the day yesterday and a high wind prevailed during the forenoon. Superior Court. , Tho attention of tfca Siiperiour Court yes terday,' for the most part of the day, was iaken up with the case of an appeal by Jesse Newkirk, of Caswell Township, for failure to . work on a road. "We understand that this case Is one of about twenty-three similar' ones and is intended as a test case. There wcrg seven true bills returned by the Grand 'Jury yesterday, :which makes a total of 2SL. . The Grand Jury visited the County "Work House yesterday afternoon. . An Old Colored TIan Shoots a Colored Boy, Itllstaklne Him for Some One Else. ' ' A shooting scrape occurred at the still- yard of Messrs. Blossom & Evans, in the northwestern section of the city, yesterday morning, about 7 o'clock: 4 The parties were an old colored man by the name of Melton and a young colored lad, about 16 years old, by the name of Henry "Jones, and the shooting seems from present ap pearances to have resulted from a case of mistaken identity. The old man Melton was employed as watchmen in the yard and states, we learn, that he had been bothered so much by some young colored man whom Jones had the misfortune to resemble that he had resolved to put an end to the annoy ance by putting an end to the cause of it "With this rather dangerous and daring ob ject in view he seems to have prepared him self and when young Jones came along yes terday morning, all unsuspecting the dire vengeance which had been aroused and which so imminently threatened his longer continuance on this mundane sphere, he was suddenly 8tartled,while passing through the public highway which leads through the yard in question, by the sharp report of a fire-arm in close proximity to him and the sharp twinges caused by several shot from the aforesaid weapon penetrating his per son. Painfully wounded by the discharge, which was found to have proceeded from the weapon of the irate old watchman, the services of Dr. W. "W. Lane were called into requisition, when it was found that one of the shots had entered just above the left eye of the victim, another had penetrated the temple, another entered somewhere about the face and several had found lodg ment in the legs. His wounds were dressed at the office of Dr. Lane, where he had been taken on e dray, and he was then carried home. We learn that it is the opinion of the physician that the wounds are not ne cessarily dangerous. OPERA HOUSE. Harry Iflaearthy and IT Is Tr o upe. The first appearance of the grand Ma earthy Combination in our newly fitted-up and tastefully arranged Opera House, was greeted last night with an audience consid erably superior in numbers to what might have been reasonably anticipated from the ugly appearance of the weather. In fact, it was both large and appreciative. The per formance of the great comedian, Harry Ma earthy, was all that might have been ex.- ne&ed by a Wilmington audience, where hys merits Jjaye Ipng been known and ap predated. His character songs elicited much laughter and applause, which was changed to a feeling of sympathy and interest when he rendered that touching ballad "The Irish Emigrant's Lament" a favorite of his, and in the dramatic effect of which he rarely fails to draw tpars from the eyes of his listeners. Logrenia, in his tricks and illusions, has few superiors, and his various performances drew forth frequent and flattering testimo nials of appreciation. The tricks of his learned birds and trained Russian cat were also very wonderful, and were handsomely applauded. Prof. O'Reardon is another old acquaint ance of Wilmington play-goers, but hisperj formances on the piano, and his wonderful musical invention of Tumbleronlcon, are too strikingly original and skilfully executed to lose interest by being often seen or heard. His feat of playing two tunes on the piano, one with the rjgljt liand, one with the left, and whistling a third at the' same time, is an evidence of remarkable musical skill and was heartily appreciated. Mrs. Lotte Estelle Macarthy, in her char acter act and in "Barney's Courtship" elicit ed much praise. Taken altogether, the performance was very fine and we shall pxpecj to see a fol house both to-night and to-morrow night, which will close their engagement here. Liberal Republican Club Meeting. Another enthusiastic meeting of the Liberal Republican Club was held last 'nighC. Delegates were present from Lin coln Township Club, which numbers 45 members, nearly all colored men, and Co lumbia Township Club, which numbers .23 members. Ij was ascertained that thp Point Caswell Club is rapidly increasing its membership and bids fair to eclipse in point of numbers all the other clubs. Mr. W. S. Benjamin's address was postponed until next Tuesday night in order to allow other delegations from the county to be present. . j a-a The Proposed Lease of the TV. W. Railroad. By reference to advertisements in this is sue it will be seen that special meetings of the stockholders of the Wilmington and Weldon and Wilmington, Columbia and Augusta Railroads, will be held at the office of the respective Presidents, in this city, on the 30th day of November -next, for thp purpose of considering the . question ofthe lease of the Wilmington and Weldon road to the Wilmington, Columbia and Augusta Railroad Company. "Step up to the captain's office and settle." Our information that the Board of Al dermen would meet on Monday night next we find to have been incorrect. They ad journed to the regular meeting, which takes place on Monday night week. ' ! " ' The Radical pow-pow at City Hall last night was quite largely attended, , but the enthusiasm was nothing to - brag on. At torney General Williams made a very long. winded speech and a very prosy one at that, judging from what we heard of it. Ho was fortunate . indeed who could keep his hat in position yesterday forenoon without holding on to it with both hands, and many was the nobby affair that was sent whirling and meandering through the muddy streets, with its owner in full chase. During the hardest of the rain of the fearful storm which raged on Wednesday night, some one entered the Star office and stole the "local" umbrella. Fit night for such dark deeds, but a terrible one to be without an umbrella, a fact which the thief seems, to Ijftve appreciated. The Neic local relates a two-barrel yarn, explaining how Parhan, the Steward cf the Yarborough House, didn't find the milk ia the cocoanut, because a young confectionery clerk, fresh from the Country, had sucked it out Washington like, he 'fessed the deed, and was smilingly pardoned- T e s A mellow dram-atic narrative is related in yesterday's News, about two young Cana dian travellers, tremulously apprehensive of injqry from the Ku Klux, who were in Ral eigh at the Jime of the Sentinel office explo? sion. They pleaded for mercy as if the Judgment day had arrived; "Oh God, save us from the Ku Klux!" One lost his hat, and both rushed frantically to their room, and left the place next day. Y. OT. C. A.
