Friends In Connecticut declare that
there is no reasonable possibility of

A Rise In the River.
We are glad to learn that, under the influ
ence of the late heavy rains, which were
pretty general in the up-country, the water
in the river at Fayetteville, up to Thursdaj'
night, had risen about five or six feet, with
a prospect of still further improvement, al
though at that time there were no indica
tions of a freshet. The Cape Fear is now
in good boating order for the first time in
several weeks, and we shall expect to see a
rush of naval stores and cotton to market
from that direction, and a lively time gen
erally among the boatmen. The Wave, and,
we think, the Worth, went up loaded yester
day afternoon.

EVERETT. At the residence of Thomas J. Arm
strong, Sen., on Swan's Point, New Hanover coun
ty, N. C, on the 28th September, 1872, Mary Arm
strong Everett, daughter of David R. F. Everett,
aged 5 years, 2 months and 20 days. .
Truly, in this case, is it verified that death loves a
shining mark. Rarely has one with more brilliant
mind and more affectionate disposition been taken
from earth to Heaven. She was the idol of an ador
ing but now heart-stricken family, and the universal
favorite or all wno came wittun tne circle oi ner ge
nial and sprightly character and attractive manners.
A flower more fragrant with the essence of aU that
is bright, beautiful and lovely has seldom been
plucked from the garden of innocence, truth, beau
ty and loveliness, to be transplanted into the ever
lasting and glorious abodes of Paradise above.
While cherishing the bright talents, uncommon
sense, tender disposition, and rare worth and attrac
tions of one so young, let this new link in the chain
that binds us all to the Heavenly homo to which she
has gone, incite us to strive, with firm steps and
better hearts, to be Jalso prepared to meet her. in
Heaven.
ANTHONY. Also, at the same place, on the 1st
or October, 1872, Mrs. nuiaa Armstrong, wne oi jar.
T. J. Armstrong, Sen., aged 48 years and 10 months.
A noble Christian woman has gone to her final re
ward. A fond husband, now Dowed down with
grief, has lost a devoted and faithful wife. The Bap
tist Church is bereft of a true and worthy member.
Warmly attached friends and affectionate relatives
are mourning me iosb oi ouo Ksuuenjr uewiuuiieK

lifrht and one of its most useful members. Seldom
has the grave received into its hallowed bosom one
moro tenderly beloved or more greatly admired. The
grief of family and friends, the large and mourf ul
concourse that followed her remains to their last
resting place, afford evidence of this truth. In all

lamp trimmed and burning brightly, and that it has
i better world than this. Her useful lire and latest
hours attest that she left this lower existence in the
shining armor and vestments of a glorious immor
tality. No doubt she will rise on the morn of the
resurrection clad in these blessed robes. Until then,
ye cedars that adorn her tomb, wave gently, and ye
moving winds, wail softly over her sleeping dust f
