Many of our citizens, especially those connected with the fire department, will re member J. Frank Hazel, Esq., who offi ciated as orator on the occasion of the visit of hte Washington Fire Company of Wil mington, DeL, to this city about a year ago. We have received a copy oi tne limes, a newspaper published at '" Smyrna," DeL, where Mr. Hazel resided, announcing his death from consumption on Saturday of last week, he having contracted the terrible disease during the trip alluded to. Few men in Delaware, according to the Times, enjoyed as high and extended a reputation for talent and oratorical ability, coupled with almost unrivaled powers as a conversa tionalist, as ' the deceased. He was .also noted for his kind heart and genial disposi tion, which won for him hosts of friends wherever he was known. During his brief stay in our city he made the acquaintance of many .who will regret exceedingly to hear the sad announcement of his death. Sena- tor Bayard, of Delaware, with whom he studied law, paid a feeling tribute to his memory in a speech delivered on Monday last A Commendable Spirit. As an example well worthy of imitation, we would state that a gentleman, now en gaged in one of the Railroad machine shops of this city,- who has not been in this State long enough to vote, left for his home in Portsmouth, Va., yesterday morning, for the purpose of voting for Greeley and Brown. He has been a life-long Democrat, but says that wherever his party leads in the effort to overthrow the tyrannical party now in power, he is content to follow. Let our friends everywhere but evince a. like com mendable spirit and Greeley and Brown will be triumphantly elected.
