On Friday, the 18th ultimo, a colored man by the name of Jim McKethan, who had been at work in South Carolina, got off the train on the Wilmington, Columbia and Au gusta Railroad, at Whiteville, with the in tention, he being quite ill at the time, of going to his home at Pine Log, distant about two miles. As he left the car a colored man with a wagon drove up, and, as he was going in the direction of Pine Log for some distance, McKethan was granted the privi lege of a ride as far as he was going. Ar riving at the point where their roads diverged the sick man got out and proceeded on his way. He was noticed by the colored man in the wagon, soon after leaving the same, to forsake the road and go into the woods. Since that time nothing was heard of him and his mysterious disappearance had be gun to excite much curiosity among the people in that vicinity, when, on Friday last, his dead body was discovered in the woods not far from where he disappeared just two weeks before. There was no indi cation of violence, but the body was much decayed. A jury of inquest was to have been held yesterday and our informant was confident that a verdict of death from natural causes would be returned.
