In our extra of veaterrlAv aftornnnn wo stated that the loss of the Liveroool and London and Globe Insurance Company by the Boston fire was Three Million Dollars. No information as to amount of their loss had been . received bv Mr. Graeme the r - - Company's General agent at this place but he in reply to a question from us said that it being evident that the fire at Boston was as extensive as that which occurred last year at Chicago, he concluded that the Company would lose about $3,000,000. A telegram received by him yesterday' evening and which appears in our issue of tp-day gives the amount of insurance in the burnt dist- trict as one million six hundred and thirty- nine thousand dollars. The American assets of this Company, amounting to over three and a half million of dollars, will not be used in the payment of the losses, the funds being furnished from the Home office, London. The above Company paid three million two hundred thousand dollars lost by Chicago fire. , Horse Malady The wat to save tour horses from this dreaded maladt is to keep them blanketed. A most remarkable instance of the for giveness of human nature (a quality, by the way, almost as rare now-a-days as genuine charity) was evidenced yesterday by Emma Arp, the colored woman who had her head so severely cut by Delia Ann Robinson. The wounded woman begired that her assailant might not be prosecuted, and said she had freely forgiven her. : In fact, after the trial had taken place at the Mayor's Court, the lion and the lamb scene under went historical repetition the afflicted one threw herself beside her recent assailant and reposed her aching head in theap of the now docile erring oner It' was too much for our reporter's phelinks he dropped his handkerchief and retired in bad order. - y irginla Cassimeres in every grade at Mclntire & Shoard's, 32 South Market street, - , 8t Bobbery A sharp young colored chap entered the I tailoring establishment of. Let ua cherish with pride and ' nleasure the heroism aifd self-sacriflcing industry ana skill of our Southern women during and since the war. Mrs. A. J. Mott. of Moore's Creek, in this county, presents an example worthy of imitation and praise in these days of poverty and trial to her own as well as the male sex. This year, while her industrious husband, Andrew J. Mott, has been laboriously engaged in the turpen tine business, she voluntarily took upon herself to cultivate a farm as well - as to attend to her varied domestic duties. including cooking, washing, &&, with her own hands. With the aid of an oxj and two children ten and twelve years of age, res pectively; she has raised one hundred and forty bushels of corn, one hundred bushels sweet potatoes, ten bushels cow peas, two thousand pounds of fodder,: and has . culti vated a good sized vegetable garden yield ing an abundance to support a family of fifteen in number. 'All this has been done with mo other aid than that named.1 Mrs. Mott is the mother of eleven children, ten of whom are living, seven small ones now with her. She also has three grand child ren. This is another case in proof that when our ladies &? turn their attention to . the in dustrial arts and sciences, they often out strip the sterner sex. Some of our best farmers are women, as in this case. Who can beat this? Will not our Cape Fear Ag ricultural Association give a premium to this female citizen of New Hanover county Our store will be kept open till nine at night for the benefit of visitors to the Fair. It Munson & Co. mayor's Court. Several cases of disorderly conduct claimed the attention of the Mayor yester day morning, chief of which was that of Delia Ann Robinson, the colored virago who came 0 near " spilin the figur head" of the woman Emma Arp with a stick of wood a few days since. The culprit was ordered to pay a fine of $10 and placed under bond of $200 to await the result of the injuries Inflicted. John Brown was excused a disorderly freak on paying the little bill of costs in the case amounting to the usual stipulation of $2 25. Gilbert Telfair was more unfortunate and paid for his frolic to the tunc of $5 and costs. John Watson got off for the costs, and still he is not happy. Fortunately, our city is exempt from the horse disease, and it seems probable we shall entirely escape its ravages. But it can do no harm to publish the following recipe for its cure. It was sent from New York to Mr. Hatcher, the Express Agent here, and is very highly recommended: "Take a bucket two-thirds full of boiling water; add a handful of camomile flowers; envelope the head of the horse and the bucket with a blanket; keep horse covered with a blanket; and when he shows sign of sweating put on another blanket, which will increase the perspiration, and when in a good perspiration take off the two wet blankets and put on dry ones. Use eight drops of Aconite in half an ounce of water every six hours." Rheumatic men can find Red Shaker Flannel Shirts and Drawers at It . Mux son & Co.'S. The Boston Fire. The terrible conflagration in Boston was the theme of animated discussion and anx ions inquiry on our streets yesterday. The general impression that many Insurance Companies had lost so heavily as to make their suspension a matter of necessity added to the excitement, especially with those per sons who have recently renewed their poli cies, " one of whom we are proud to be which."
