These state ments are to the effect that Hon. IL G. The statements! agree in both journals, ex cept in the scene of the "robbery," as one has it laid in Baltimore, as stated, while the other gravely declares that it occurred at the Baltimore and Ohio depot, in Wash ington. The first statement also goes on to say that "the Judge," meaning, we suppose, Mr. Onderdonk, " is waiting in Baltimore to interview the police and to stop the pay ment of the checks and notes." If he "is waiting in Baltimore to interview the no tice," where is he t He has not yet made his appearance at the police headquarters, nor is anything known concerning his whereabouts in the city. A Dan;erons Knlsance. If the authorities have any regard for the health df the city, which we have no reason to doubt, they will immediately examine into the condition of several of the premises on the East side of North Water street, just north of where the fire occurred 'some months since.. Our attention was called to the matter yesterday by a gentleman occu pying one of the ouiidings. lie tore up one of the planks of the floor and disclosed to us the fact that water was standing under neath the building to the depth of from one to three feet, and this water, which came from the engines and was mixed with mo lasses,' : liquors, . &c,' has been standing there ever since the fire. The smell arising from the ' stagnant 'mixture, especially at night, and when stirred by the accumula tion of fresh water in case of heavy rain, is said to be terrible. When tlie plank was raised yesterday a swarm of mosquitoes flew up from the recking labyrinth below, and persons who sleep iq the upstairs of the building state that there rest is nightly dis turbed this early in the season by these troublesome insedts, which breed by mil lions in these filthy sluice holes. It seems that the back door had been acciden tally left unfastened the evening previous. A watch and several other articles which were lying about loose were not distarbed. A young gentleman occupying the same room with Mr. Beery was robbed of the contents of his pockets, which, fortunate- ly, was only abont $1 85 in money and a piugr oi tooaccor - inere was jigm uu ing in the room at the time. The Berger Family The famous Berger Family of Swiss Bell Ringers, which won such favorable opin ions on the occasion of a former visit to this city, will commence a brief engagement at the Opera House this evening. All who wish to patronize a chaste and elegant en tertainment should seize this opportunity of witnessing the performances of the Berger Family. The Columbia South Carolinian thus speaks of their appearance in that city: "Irwin's Hall was filled last night to en joy the rare and chaste musical treat afford ed by this deservedly popular Troupe. The performance has lost none of its attractions since their last visit to our city, and the en cores and applause were frequent and hearty. The Cornett Solo of Miss Anna Berger, the ballards of Miss Nellie Knapp, Mr. Thiele's exquisite melodies from the violin, and he Comic Songs of Mr. Frank were received with marked appreciation. Miss Ettie's playing with her silver staff and crystal chimes was very beautiful and Miss Ettie was more beautiful than her playing. The Bergers are great favorites in Columbia, and always secure a full house even in a dull season. l Sad Case. A young man by the name of Charles Price, who says he is a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, fell in a faiting fit on the pavement at the corner of Third and Dock streets yesterday.
