Sudden Deatn.
, , Mr. Daniel L. Savage, who resided in
that portion of the city known as " Brook
lyn," died very suddenly yesterday morn
ingabout 8 o'clock. He had been ill with
pneumonia for about eight or ten days, but.
had so far recovered that he waa able to go
about the house and lot After breakfast
yesterday morning he took a walk in the
garden, but after remaining out ft few
minutes returned to the house, entering
which he requested his mother to open- the
doors and windows, remarking that the
room was very warm. At the same moment
he showed signs of weakness and called
to his wife fer a chair, but before she
could get to him he had fallen to the
floor.. His wife and mother, becoming
alarmed, called . for assistance from the
street and a messenger was immediately dis
patched for his physician, who had discon
tinued, his visits.., .It was evident from the
first, however, to the friends who hastened
to his side, that he would have no further
need for an earthly physician, and in less
than ten minutes after entering the house
he had breathed his last It is supposed
that his death was caused by an attack of
apoplexy. - Deceased was one of the oldest
engineers, on the Wilmington andWeldon
Railroad and was highly esteemed by all
who knew him. - lie was a devoted mem-
tier pf the Masonic fraternity and will be
bu4e,i with the honors of that institution
this af tcRfxpon at 4 o'clock;-the funeral to
take place from the First Baptist Church."

following is the poetical effusion which ac

sentiment with the fact of its having fallen
