Brtu Band, We are glad to learn that a number of young gentlemen of this city have at last got into the notion of organizing a Brass Band, and that a meeting will be held some time during the present week to complete the necessary arrangements to that end. ims is a step in the right direction. Besides, we have an experienced performer , of instrumental . music in our midst, which ccrtainlv affords fine opportunity for organizing a first class band. All day long the wind swept through the streets, hurling the dust in volumes through our prominent thorough fares and almost blinding those whose busi ness required them to be on the streets. To give some idea of the extent of the gale,' we learn from the Weather Observatory that the mextmry fell one-half inch from mid night Friday night to 5 o'cloek yesterday morning. . The storm attained its height at 11:20 A. M., when the Wind was travelling at the rate of 48 miles per hour. The aver age velocity of the wind between 8 A.S M. and 2 P. M. was 36 miles per .hour J, The gale travelled Southward from Dakota. The damage from the gale here in the city, was not as great as might have been expected. - ;The tin, roof of the building at the Southern end of Lippitt's block, on Front street, j"was rblown' pff,i carrying with It a portion of the wooden roof underneath, -s -The tin- roof. f!' the Seamen's Jlome, which - building is now in process of demolition, was also blown off and hurled into Dock street, causing considerable excitement in that locality. This, with the . blowing down of several shade trees, fences, &c, was all the damage in the city, so far as we could ascertain. The Weldon News learns from its friends in Northampton, that its account of the : Branch-Edwards shooting case was rather a one-sided affair.
