Railway Rumen. " ,
Jt is rumored that no attention will be
paid to the injunction of Judge, Logan re
straining the Commissioners from selling
the Wilmington, Charlotte and Rutherford
Railway. It is claimed that Judge Logan
has no jurisdiction in the case, and that
even if he had the maximum penalty he
could exact for " contempt" would be a
fine of $200.
It is also rumored that Mr. R Y. McAden
will appear before His Honor Judge Rus
sell, at Chambers to-morrow, with a distin
guished array of counsel, and will apply
for an injunction. Mr. McAden is the
holder, as we learn, of nearly $200,000 of
the first morgage bonds of the Wilmington,
Charlotte and Rutherford Railway Com
pany, and seems to possess the unpardona
ble weakness of trying to obtain the high
est possible price for his bonds.
It is rumored further, that if Mr. McAden
fail in Ills effort to " injunct,"- that he will
attend the sale Thursday, as a bidder, and
make things lively for the bondholders
who are marshalled under the leadership of
the indomitable Judge Onderdonk.
We hope there will be no postponement of
the sale; but we take no sides in the fight
bet ween , the Onderdonkers and the Mc
Adenites on the question of bonds. It is
the interest of the former that the road shall
bring a merely nominal price; it is the in
terest of the latter that it shall bring the
highest possible figure. It is, therefore,
quite natural that both parties should feel
somewhat solicitous as to the result of
the sale. But it Is a : matter of no
interest or importance to us whether the
road sell for three thousand dollars or three
million dollars. Mr. McAden represents
the financial bull, while Judge Onderdonk
represents the financial bear. ' " :
Educational,
, A public meeting of the friends of. pop

in this County, on Saturday next Hon.

others will address the meeting. It is
hoped there will be a large attendance.
After the meeting adjourns, the County
i Agricultural Society will hold a meeting,
as we are Informed by the .President, Mr.
John H. Murphy: - ' - f . ; i v
This Is a movement in the right direction.
Let us arouse on the great subject of pub
lic education. It is the main hope of our
people; next to that is agriculture, for from
education and agriculture all our prosperity
must come. Let us hear that this has been
a rousing meeting, buch meetings are
greatly . needed. .
