" After our paper had gone to press'yester

edition had been printed, we received in
telligence of a burglary having been com
mitted by a white man by the1 name of
Thomas B. Webb. Under the circum
stances we could then' only make' brief men
tion of tfie fact," and we now give the par
ticulars as follows : Mr. Brunhild had. occa
sioa to go to his store, in company with a
friend, shortly before 12 o'clock. As they J

They, then proceeded to the door that they 1
had seen closed, as if by some unseen hand.
and one of the party attempted to pull it
open, when he found that it was held shut
by some one on the other side.
It was then
agreed that while one remained at the door
the other should summon a policeman.
This was done, and . in the meantime, the j
party at the door heard some pne creeping
up the stairs. - A crowd soon collected,
among them two or three policemen, and a

in one end ' of the' building, the door
of which was open, one of the party thought
he perceived a slight trembling of the
shutter and something very like the fingers I
of a man's hand clasping the edge of it. to
hold it . back. . The party ', who madV the
discovery walked to the door, gave, the
8hutter sudden jerk, when' out stepped
bb and the burglar was reveal-
ed. He was reaklng with perspiration and
his clothing disfigured wilh lime and cobwebs.-
He was very cool and collected,
however, and, upon facing the party, broke
out In what one of them termed " a mighty
dry laugh, exclaiming, VWhat Is . all this
excitement about; what is the. matter?"
Upon being asked what he was doing there,;
he remarked that he came in with the rest
to hunt for the burglar and got behind the
door to make them believe he was the man
they were searching for.'. They were rather
inclined to the opinion that he was, and he
was consequently taken into custody' and
carried to the Guard House. He had a
valise or satchel with him, which was found
to contain several boxes of cigars,' two
bottles of . whiskey , and a quantity of to
bacco.'";' .Vi"V'.V , -V'1. ' l
, A key. was found in tile side door, by
which the burglar entered, which, upon
being shown to Mr. Brunhild, was identi
fied as one which he had lost while ' Webb
was in his employ several months ago., : '
The preliminary examination, of ,Webb
before the Mayor's Court is alluded to else

police officer was dispatched to search his
